Sitting in the back of the class alone was a big perk for me. Unlike most schools, here we sit in pairs while usually in other schools you have and individual desk. We also had a seating plan so we couldn't really sit where ever we wanted to. For some people that was a disadvantage while for me, I really didn't care where I sat, honestly. Second Language class was a usual bore mainly because I sat alone but it was also because it's a class, therefore automatically it's boring or maybe I just never pay any attention. Every few minutes or so I would slip my phone out of my pocket, checking the time. Thirteen minutes. I looked up at the teacher who was passionately explaining Arabian grammar. Yes, I learn Arabic. A few of my relatives, as Dad would say, were Arabian at first I didn't really think much of it but then I thought why not try and learn it. So what would any bored-out-of-their-mind student do? Enrolled in the course. Sometimes I would say it's the worst mistake I've ever made and sometimes, as usual, I wouldn't care. I slipped my phone out of my pocket again. Four minutes. I sang a song in my head, Kagu's Shadow of the Wind.Leave out the colours you want to dork. Find a mask in a shape. With eyes that won't explode. Feel free from the questions of before. See yourself in exoplanet. Just sit back and watch it all.
Two minutes.
You are the shadow of the wind. Stay in the shadow of the wind. Please, to my reflection from your skin. I'll keep my distance from the wind.
One minute.
I stared ahead, not willing to complete the song. My eyes were feeling really droopy and honestly all I really wanted to do was put my head down and sleep. My fantasies were cut off by none other than the single bell. I quickly stood up from my seat and shoved my books into my locker on my way to my second class. A class here that we call Advising, basically where some old guy that is like head supervisor of our school tells us things we already know and points out the obvious, it's like a lecture except it's the only class we don't get tested on. For example, universities, healthiness, you'll never be a good student if you don't at least try and study, blah blah all that kinda crap. I took a b-line to my classroom, smiling at the sight of Griffin getting along well with Pheonix, their eyes were lit up, talking about something they must both enjoy or something. I sat in the seat in front of Nix since that was my assigned seat. Griffin was sat in the single seat next to Nix. I put my backpack on my lap taking out my books. Patiently waiting for the class teacher to arrive I listened to what Grif and Nix were talking about. Music. Ahh, yes. Nix is a music fanatic. I mean who isn't, but Nix is so passionate about it I find it amazing. He plays the guitar and I'm teaching him the piano. He's a pretty fast learner since he likes to match up the keys to the neck of the guitar in his head. As the sir walks into class, everyone shuts up in respect and greets him good morning.
About half and hour into the lesson there's a knock on the door and a slightly weirded out principal. She came in and whispered something in our teacher's ear.
"Ruby Falcon?" He called out. Almost automatically I raised my hand and felt Nix put his hand on my shoulder.
"What's going on, Red?" I just shrugged, not looking back at him. The teacher motioned for me to get my things and come up. I did and he told me to go outside. There was a policeman standing outside the door, waiting patiently. Woah, okay. The principal handed me a slip that has my school release from it and told me that the policeman will explain everything. I just went along with it because I couldn't be bothered to be asking questions. I mean, I know I didn't do anything wrong so honestly, whatever. Me and the cop walked in silence for a bit until he held the entrance door open for me and looked at me with a warm smile.
"Thank you." I smiled sincerely.
"No problem, miss. I'm officer Nick, by the way."
"Nice to meet you, and you can call me Ruby."
"Well, Ruby, you're probably wondering why I pulled you out of school today, right?" I nodded, urging him to go on.
"It's about your parents, do you watch the news by any chance?"
"No, but my friend and I did stumble across a channel where they said that the accident might have actually been a murder. Is that true?" I asked.
"Unfortunately, yes. Your parents were murdered, but that's not just it. I'll tell you the rest in the station. Would you like to drop off your stuff at home before and maybe get something to occupy yourself with. Might be there for a while." I nodded looking straight ahead. Once we got into his car I texted Pheonix telling him I was fine.
"You don't mind if I listen to some music, do you? It could really help my stress out." I asked him showing him my phone and my headphones wrapped around it.
"No, of course not, go ahead. Just tell me your address first." I told him the directions and plucked my headphones in. I closed my eyes for a brief moment only to open them and find we were close to the house since it wasn't all that far from school. He pulled over and I ran inside emptying my backpack, putting my laptop, book, and journal inside. I ran back downstairs and got my wallet and keys, shoving those in the front pocket of my bag. I got back inside the car and set my bag by my feet. I set my head back and watched the city go by me in a multi-color pace. The roads seemingly leading to somewhere and nowhere at the same time. Not unlike my thoughts.
