Right now Pheonix and I were walking down the beach, both of us holding a tub of Ben and Jerry's in a sweet and calm silence.

"Wait." Pheonix stopped in his tracks.

"What?"

"What the fuck? My name is spelled wrong," he looked at me with a genuinely perplexed face. "It's P.H.O.E.N.I.X not P.H.E.O.N.I.X."

"Are you kidding me? Nix, just come on let's continue walking who cares if your name is spelled wrong. You're unique." I laughed.

"Unique my ass. My dad was dyslexic." he laughed.

"Oh my God." I laughed.

"What? It's true." He defended.

"Sure, if you say so."

"You underestimate me too much."

"And you're a horrible human being so there's no difference there."

"Actually-"

"Shut up. Don't correct me."

"Yeah, you're mean too."

"Whatever, weirdo."

We walked all the way to my house and once we got to my front door I unlocked it only to be pushed aside by the asshole himself. I shook my head and walked in, closing the door behind me. Pheonix was sat on my couch lazily going through the channels on T.V when an interesting one came up and we both stopped breathing for a second.

I couldn't believe it. Until now they were still investigating the accident. They were showing pictures of my dad's car after the accident. It looked horrible, I'm surprised I survived. Although sometimes I wish I didn't. Pheonix probably didn't know I was standing behind him because I was being really quiet. I walked backwards into the kitchen really quietly so he wouldn't notice. I slowly shut the sliding doors and slouched onto an island chair. My head fell into my hands as I dug the heels of my hands into my eyes. I started seeing weird colors but I kept going. I didn't notice that I was breathing quickly until I felt two arms peel my hands away from my face. I looked at Pheonix and felt something wet on my cheek. I didn't even know I was crying.

"Ruby it's fine. You're fine. That happened a long time ago, don't worry I'm right here." He hugged me and I nuzzled my head into the crook of his neck trying to hold down my sobs for a little longer so I could calm down.

"I can't believe they're still investigating it. I mean it was an accident there's nothing left to figure out. I heard the voice say something that caught my attention.
"Investigators believe that, to all of our surprise, this was no accident." I gasped and looked at Pheonix. He was just as shocked as I was.
"Oh my God, Ruby." Was all he said before he ran to the tv, turning it off.
"No no I'm not gonna believe this bullshit. That's a load of crap, Ruby don't think about it okay?" I just stayed silent and nodded.
"Do you want me to stay tonight?" He asked softly, stroking some stray hairs from my face. I sniffled and shook my head.
"No it's fine go home. I'll call you if I need you." I said giving him a slight smile.
"Okay, just don't think about anything that just happened okay? Just go get some rest." I nodded, he kissed my forehead and winked, leaving the house. I sighed deeply not wanting to think about this anymore. Following his suggestions, I went upstairs to change and go to bed. Dreading the inevitable called tomorrow...
