Chapter 10

Pisces POV

The guys and I are seated at a round table playing dominoes. I put down my piece and I know I'll win this time.

"Here's the mail" Robert says loudly, he's one of the guys I work with. I never receive anything so I don't bother getting up.

"Hey Niall there's an envelope for you, it just has your name on it" he says and hands me the envelope. I look at it surprised, maybe it's from my uncle. The more I examine it the less I think it's from him. I don't get the chance to open it because the siren goes off.

"Let's go boys" says robert in a hurry and we put on our bunker gear. There hasn't been a fire in weeks but we're always prepared just in case. I have my gear on in under a minute and I get in the fire truck. I wait for the rest of the guys and they don't take long. We drive to where the call came from and hop off the truck.

We stand outside an apartment building and everyone is huddled around. I hope everyone got out as fast as they could.

"You two stop the fire from spreading, Niall come with me to check if anyone is still inside " he says and we walk into the building. Robert goes right and I go left to cover more ground. I walk into every room checking to see if anyone stayed behind. I find no one and start heading back outside until I hear someone screaming. I follow the sound and find a boy around 7 years old in a one of the rooms.

"Some one help me" he screams louder than before. I don't think he's acknowledged that I'm here.

"Calm down I'll get you out safely" I reply to the distressed boy. I walk closer to him but parts of the ceiling are crumbling down, something falls in front of him making him harder to reach. The flames quickly spread around him. I grab the fire extinguisher and spread the foam extinguishing the hot substance. "You're going to be okay, now let's go" I reassure him.

I grab his hand walking him out but he lets go and runs the opposite direction. What in the world, where is he going? Is he trying to die?

"Come back" I yell and he doesn't seem to care. I can't just leave him here so I chase him. When I catch up to him I carry him hoping he'll stay still.

"Let go" he screams in my ear. So much for staying still, but I know as soon as I let him down he'll run again. "Let go" he continues but I just keep walking.

"I need to help her" he says and I stop walking, so many memories flood back.

"Who are you talking about" I ask him while putting him down and he doesn't hesitate on giving me an answer.

"My mom she was stuck when the fire started I ran to get help, but I couldn't find anyone so I screamed until you came" he says frantically. Why the hell didn't he mention this before.

"Where is she" I ask and he runs. I follow behind and stop when he enters a room. There's a woman on the floor unconscious luckily there's nothing in my way. I run towards her and pick her up slowly. We need to get out quickly this building is old and going to come crashing down at any moment. We run until we see the light peering through until we're finally outside.

"Get this woman a oxygen mask" I demand and the paramedics take her and place her on the gurney.

"I want to go with her" he says as they put her inside the ambulance.

"They won't let you, but I can take you" I tell him and he smiles. "She's all I have, thank you for saving her" he says.

"No problem, it's what I do" I tell him. I know his outcome was a lot better then mine.

"Your like my guardian angel" he says happily.
