Chapter 1.
I skirted down the alleyways. By now I didn't exactly care if I was caught. It had been weeks since I ran from the all girls home and I was exhausted.
Turns out the Brown Bear Association wasn't exactly thrilled for a teenage girl to be their ring leader and had quickly thrown me back out onto the streets. It was ridiculous. A downright coupe. I knew every trick in the book, but I wasn't intimidating enough.
I was sure the dudes chasing me worked for my mom, or the government, or maybe they wanted revenge for some imagined (or unimagined for that matter) slight King had made. They could've even been Brown Bears; bent on my removal since I knew all their secrets.
Whatever it was I had no more time to think on it. I needed to get to a safe house asap. As I tried to escape down another back alley I was hit by a tranq dart, and was down for the count.
When I finally woke up from one of the strangest dreams in history, don't even get me started, I was lying on a bed in a very nicely furnished room. Being raised by the notorious King, I evaluated everything before I decided to get up.
Door wasn't locked. I wasn't bounded or gagged. There was a bathroom, a green t-shirt, shorts, and some combat boots. Oh how I loved the sight of those combat boots.
Year after year for my birthday I had always begged my dad for some. I told him all the benefits for having them. He told me that they were very unfeminine and that he'd never let one of his girls where them. And what dad said goes. So when I saw those boots they were like a gift from the great shoe gods.
I slipped out of bed and teetered towards the clothes. I grabbed them in my arms and headed towards the bathroom. After a long needed shower, running away leaves little time for hygiene, I got dressed and sat on the bed. After a quick glance I found a remote controller and clicked on the TV.
The Brown Bear association was at work again. They stole the Mona Lisa from the museum it was resting in. Police are still looking over the video feed from last night. The news headline read. Oh yeah. I organized that heist- right before King had been taken down-had no idea they actually accomplished it. Totally should've kept me around. Ten points for Parker! Some of you might remember that 4 months ago today the leader of the Brown Bear, King Brown, was found in a drunken stupor in New York's biggest hotel/bar.
I remembered that night all too well. That was why I was in this strange place in the first place. If dad had actually used his damn brain, we might still be together.
There was a knocking on the door. Before I could answer it, a boy of about my age entered. He introduced himself as Andrew as he sat down beside me.
"You're probably the first person who sat down and watched TV instead of trying to figure out where they were. Most kids freak when they wake up, but you just looked around like it was nothing!" Andrew exclaimed.
"So there are cameras, I sort of guessed that much," I turned the TV on mute. "Anyway, I was trained to not freak in strange circumstances. I mean how else would I be alive?"
"Wait trained? Why have you been trained?" Andrew asked.
I nodded at the TV where they were showing King Brown being stuffed into a police car. The headline read: King Brown's daughter still not found! Police have decided that for the moment that they will not release any pictures of this runaway teens but she is 15 years of age and knows her way around New York.
"Yes, I do, but so does any idiot with a brain and a good map," I murmured as I stood up and turned the TV off by hand.
"You mean you're King Brown's daughter?" Andrew asked.
