Luke went into work a little late, but it was worth it because he got to spend his morning with Ashton.
As soon as he arrived, his boss told him that there had been another copycat murder and that he was supposed to go to the scene.
Luke drove off to the crime scene and almost gagged at how gory the site was. There was blood everywhere and it all looked so... violent. He couldn't believe how angry this murder seemed.
He found out who the victim was: a 16 year old girl from upstate.
Luke collected the information he needed and told the coroner that he'd be by sometime soon to pick up the autopsy report.
Luke can't imagine what could make a person want to hurt another human like that. He's seen so many murders throughout his career, but that has to be one of the most violent. There must have been something deeper about this kill that he needs to look for.
He tries to find out what he can about the victim, but there's not much. She came from an orphanage in New York and she was adopted at the age of three by a middle-aged couple. None of the information he's found has any significance to the case.
That's when he remembers that thee was a cell phone found at the scene. He goes to evidence and finds the phone.
After a few attempts, he unlocks it and he's shocked to find that the whole thing is wiped clean. He calls the cell phone company and asks for the records for the victim's phone and they immediately fax them to him.
He searches through them for any thing that might tie her to this case, but all he's seen so far are just messages between the victim and her friends. Something catches his eye on the second page.
There are multiple texts to the same number that seem frantic. The girl seems as if she wanted to tell everyone something, but couldn't. As he reads on, he sees that this is not the normal conversation between two teenagers.
It appears that the victim directly knew the copycat, considering the person the victim was texting was threatening them if they went to tell the police about what happened Saturday.
Just as Luke is going to trace the number, Detective Hood walks into his office.
"Have you found anything new, Hemmings?" he asks.
"The latest victim of the Persephone copycat directly knew their killer."
