But no one knew that Roth wasn’t the only dragon surviving the war. A female, white dragon called Arya survived as well.
She survived because she was cursed. A witch cursed her. This curse made her look human. It changed Arya into a human woman. The only difference between her and a real human was that she was immortal. Nothing could ever kill her, except her brother. Roth was the only one able to kill her but he died long ago. That’s what is told but no one can prove this right. No single existing creature actually saw him dying which led to some quarter-dragons believing that he never died and was just hiding.
They believe he’s just sleeping somewhere hidden from everyone, waiting for the day of his awakening to come.
Kaitlynn set straight up in her bed. She looked around scared. What had happened just now? What was this dream? Why did she dream of dragons? She never did before so why was it happening now?
Many question raced through the little girls head keeping her awake and afraid. It was scary. It was like something, someone, was telling her the dragon’s history. Kaitlynn didn’t understand why though. It was just strange. She never was interested in dragons not even in mystical, magical, creatures.
The girl slowly swung her legs over the edge of the bed. She slowly slid forward until her small feet touched the ground. It was a really high bed and she was rather small. When she sat on it her feet were about 7 inches above the floor.
She looked around, her curls flying like crazy. No one was in the room. She was alone but it felt like there was someone. She could feel some strange presence she never felt before. It was just strange.
Kaitlynn crossed the room to light the candles of the small candlestick standing there on a small wooden dresser. She registered that there were many dressers and other things she didn’t notice before. She lighted the candle as quiet as possible. There was a silence in the room she didn’t want to break.
Suddenly she jumped around. There was a loud Bang! coming from the desk. She looked at the door, fearing that Jase could’ve woken up by the sound of what ever happened just now.
Kaitlynn stared at the door for nearly five minutes before she dared to move again. She slowly set one little foot I front of each other getting closer to the desk. Something was welling up inside of her she never felt before. Fear. She was afraid, no not simply afraid, more really scared, of what she would see when she reached the desk.
Every two steps the little girl looked back over her shoulder, checking if Jase or anyone else were waked by the noise from before. She didn’t know if she was allowed to be up at night. Maybe Jase would be angry with her if he found out because at night his father was up and he was a bit rude. Oh, and Jase was scared of her meeting him even if Kaitlynn didn’t understand why. It was stupid. His father was a nice person. Not as nice as Jase, but still really nice.
She got closer to the desk and suddenly fastened her steps. She reached the desk, placed the candlestick on the right side and looked all over the desk, searching for whatever just made this sound.
Then she saw it. The picture of the woman that looked so much like her. He already saw the paining before but holding this little piece of paper now made the similarities even more visible.
It was a picture of pocket size. The picture was an artistic masterpiece. Not many people were able to draw something this fine and filigree.
The woman on it had long blonde curls. They were about hip-length. Her big blue eyes stared directly at you. They nearly captured you even if they were just drawn.
The dress she was wearing was a soft rose color with a corset in a lightly darker color. Also there were ornaments all over the dress. They were golden and shimmered like real gold. The dress went down to the floor. In her hair the woman on the picture had some light rose flowers that looked just like realistic as the rest. Whoever had drawn this was a genius.
Kaitlynn slowly put the picture down on the desk again to pick another one up. It had to be made by the same person the first one was and showed the same woman as the other one but she was wearing an amazingly beautiful white dress. It looked a lot like the rose dress but it was even more beautiful. Every detail was drawn with so much love you could nearly feel it.
To the left of the woman stood a man. You couldn’t see him completely anymore. Someone had ripped this part off the picture off. You could only see his right leg and that was it. More wasn’t there anymore.
Kaitlynn put this picture down too and felt tears welling up in her eyes.
This was her mother.
She smiled as a tear ran down her cheek. She didn’t ask herself these questions before but now, that the first tear rolled down her cheek, they came to her.
Why were pictures of her mother here? Who did draw them? They looked expensive and her family never was rich. They didn’t have a single picture at all so who bought them? Where did the money come from?
So many questions were running through the little girls mind. She didn’t understand what was happening since she got here. First she found out that Jase was the son of the monster, next this strange book appeared and then there were those drawings of her mother. Also the huge portrait confused her. Something wasn’t right. It was all so strange.
Kaitlynn never had to do with magic or magical creatures except Jase and he didn’t often show his wings so it wasn’t this special to her at all. But now all these strange things happened at once. It was single day and it contained more mysteries than her whole life before.
Kaitlynn sighed as she walked to the bed again. She needed to try getting some more sleep. Tomorrow would be a funny but exhausting day. She was sure that Jase would show her around, she would meet the other people living here and maybe she would get her own tutor! That would be just amazing.
Kaitlynn was an inquisitive little girl. She wanted to know as much as possible because she thought that learning was funny. She always enjoyed the hours Jase spent with her learning new things. He was an amazing tutor. Better than the ones that actually worked at the local school.
She sighed, climbing back onto the huge bed again. Whoever chose this bed wasn’t a friend of small people. Which normal person would want such a big mattress? It may be really, really comfortable but also annoying. It was nearly too soft. Well, it was better than Kaitlynn’s old bed.
When she still lived with her father she had an old saggy mattress with old blankets and pillow that weren’t too comfortable anymore. Now she had this huge, queen-size bed. It was such an incredible change for her.
She cuddled into the huge bed and felt how fast it got warm under the sheets. This was amazing. She lived in a palace! That was something every girl dreamed of. Every girl wanted to live like a princess and Kaitlynn did live like this now. She felt so good where she was.
The girl missed his father and his warmth and open heart of course but she also loved being here. It was really beautiful in this palace and Jase was here too! He was the only real friend she ever had and she loved him for who he was. She loved him like a brother though. Kaitlynn never fell in love with Jase but she felt like he was her lost big brother even if she knew that he wasn’t at all.
The little girl slowly drifted off into dreamland while she still though about everything that had happened that day. It was so strange but still amazing. She couldn’t wait for tomorrow to arrive.
