Kaitlynn set up on her bed stretching herself after a long night in a comfortable bed. She had never slept this good even if she had strange dreams.

Another dragon that survived… Wandering around as human… Cursed… What did that mean? The little girl didn’t understand any of it, but what confused her most was that she was told the dragon’s history and their wars. But it didn’t make any sense to her at all.

She sighed when she noticed the woman standing next to her bed. “Angelique!” she squealed smiling her typical smile. She didn’t care that Jase’s maid had been unfriendly yesterday. Kaitlynn thought that maybe Angelique was just shocked by her being this young and small, or because she knew Jase. She was sure it was a reason like this and nothing to worry about.

The maid just nodded at her before she went over to the desk to get a tray that she must’ve put there before she woke Kaitlynn.

It was a silver tray; Kaitlynn even guessed it was pure silver. On the tablet were a lot of things the girl never ate before. For example curd cheese pockets, tasty granary bread all different kinds of jam as well as toast. Also there was a glass f orange juice and a cup of hot water next to an assortment of teabags.

“Is that for me?” She asked pointing at the tray with her small hand. It looked so good that she didn’t believe it really was for her and not for Jase or someone as important as Jase. Someone related to Aros.

“Yes Miss Kaitlynn. It’s all for you. I hope it fits your taste. Our cook gave his best in making it perfect for you.” Angelique explained smiling at the girl in front of her. She went back to the bed, the tablet still in her hand. She put it onto the bed next to Kaitlynn and watched the little girl reaching for a piece of bread.

Kaitlynn put some butter and strawberry jam on the bread before taking a big bite of it. She felt like she was starving, her stomach already growling like it never had before.

She opened her mouth and took a big bite of the tasty bread. The taste spread in her mouth like an explosion. She never tasted anything this good. The bread was slightly sweet and you could taste a bit yeast too which was a perfect combination.

The jam was sweet and had to be extremely fresh. It still tasted like fresh strawberries would taste and not slightly like faked strawberries. Kaitlynn never ate something this good and fresh. It was amazing.

“That’s really good!” She exclaimed happily, spilling a part of the half-chewed bread over her blanket. Kaitlynn took another bit while staring at Angelique who just smiled a kinda sad smile at her.

“Thank you. I’m gonna tell the cook that you liked it.” The woman simply replied. “Anyways, you have writing and reading lesson today. As well as dancing lesson.” She continued. “And in the evening you’re gong to have dinner with the young master and his father.”

Kaitlynn stared at Angelique. Did she really mean that? She was going to have three lessons today and have dinner with Aros and Jase? That’s a taut plan for her first day at the palace but it wasn’t a problem at all. She was looking forward to have reading lesson. She always wanted to be able to read and if she would be taught to do so it’ll always be awesome. Even if it meant learning on her first day. Even if she would’ve preferred walking around the castle and getting to know her new home.

“Okay. So who is gonna be my teacher?” Kaitlynn asked curious. Angelique sighed before she replied.

“You’re gonna see it yourself soon enough. Just eat your breakfast and then we’ll dress you up and get you ready for your first lesson.” The woman said walking over to the wardrobe and searching for, what Kaitlynn guessed, a dress.

She took another bite of her bread while she stared at the woman.

“Red? No, no… maybe black… no… white? White’s good.” Angelique murmured while browsing the wardrobe for a dress that could fit Kaitlynn.

Maybe, the little girl thought, most dresses would be too big for me or maybe she just doesn’t like most of them so she takes this long to find one for me.

Angelique suddenly spun around a beautiful white dress in her hands. “What do you think? You wanna wear that today?” She asked with a smile like a little girl being able to dress up some doll. Is that what she thought Kaitlynn was? A doll she could dress up and play with? No, that wouldn’t make any sense. Angelique was just friendly, that’s all.

“It’s pretty but what about the dress I wore when I came here? I would like that much more.” Kaitlynn replied between two bites. Why does she have to wear a new dress and not the beautiful one her father had made for her before she left? She liked the blue dress much more than the white one the maid was holding right now.

The woman shook her head at the little girl’s question. “No. It needs to be cleaned before you can wear it again. And well, we have dozens of beautiful dresses here so you should really wear them. It would be a shame if you never do.” She explained patiently.

Kaitlynn felt tears welling up her eyes. Why can’t I just wear the dress once more? she thought. She swallowed and put the bread away. She couldn’t believe they just took away her precious dress. It was just not fair of them to do this without asking for her permission.

“I’m finished…” She whispered her voice nearly getting caught in her throat and sounding as weak as she felt.

“Okay, then come, I’m gonna show you the bathroom where I already prepared a bath for you.” Kaitlynn nodded, slowly getting up from her bed. She jumped off the bed, her bare feet hitting the wooden floor. She didn’t make a sound while jumping down from the bed. The girl slowly trotted over to the woman who was holding out a hand for her.

Kaitlynn grabbed Angelique’s hand and let the maid pull her out of the bedroom and into one of the other rooms, Jase’s bedroom lead into.

Kaitlynn gasped in shock as the door opened. He bath was made out of marble. The floor was some white marble while the walls were slightly gray looking. In the middle was a giant basin, no you couldn’t call that basin anymore. It was more of a pool.

Around the pool were golden figurines of dragons. Kaitlynn started to believe that there were dragons in every room. Well, why shouldn’t they? It was a dragon’s home at all.

“Whoa!” She exclaimed looking around the room, noticing the pattern of the marble. It also looked like dragons. Amazing.

“It’s beautiful isn’t it?” Angelique asked before letting go of Kaitlynn’s hand. She headed over to the pool and stretched her hand into the water. It seemed to be of acceptable temperature, because she came back to Kaitlynn taking her hand again.

“Come; let’s get you in as long as the water’s still warm.” She said before pulling the nightgown over the girls head and literally pushing her into the pool.
