Chapter 2

“ALLEEEXXX!!” I screamed as I walked, well ran into work. “ALEX ALEX ALEX!!!”

“PAISLEY PAISLEY PAISLEYYY!” Alex replied back from behind a shelf she was stocking with dog food. She wasn’t even looking at me. She just kept pilling bags of dog food onto the shelves not even phased by my hyper active bouncing next to her with the biggest, stupidest smile on my face.

“Do you not know what day it is!?” I asked with a slight shock in my voice. But really I wasn’t shocked because she always forgets about things. Like one time she forgot I was coming over her house for a sleepover and she thought I was a robber in her house and almost hit me over the head with her brothers base guitar.

“Nope.” Alex said putting emphasis on the “P”. I stood there just staring at here cause I knew that it would come to her mind eventually. I tried so hard not to laugh as I could see her face turn from a serious “Yay! I’m at work.” face to an “OH MY GOD!” face. She turned to look at me slowly. Her mouth wide open, eye bulging out of her hair like a fish, and her eyebrows seemed like the jumped off her face as she realized what she had forgotten.

“Yep.” I nodded with a smirk seeing that she finally got all hyper and energetic like I was when I walked… ok… “Ran” through the doors of the store.

“WE ARE GOING TO SEE ONE DIRECTION TOMORROW!” Alex yelled causing all the customers to turn and look at us. But we didn’t care. We started jumping around and squealing at the top of our lungs.

“Girls!” Bob said peeking around the corner of the next isle. We stopped in mid celebration as our boss gave us a scowl. “Keep it down!”

“Sorry sir.” Alex and I said in unison. He shook his head and disappeared. We continued to celebrate by silent dancing and singing. No one was gonna hold our excitement back.

“Excuse me miss.” A lady came up from behind us tapping my shoulder. I turned around and smiled. Showing her I was willing to help her. “I would like to look at a puppy.” she said with a sweet smile as she looked down at her son who had to be about 5 years old holding tightly onto her leg.

“Of course mam! Right this way.” I said turning around back to Alex who was trying so hard not burst out in excitement again. As I walked over to the side wall of the store you could see all different types of puppies on the other side of their little glass windows waiting to be adopted to a loving home. I could help but smile seeing how cute they all were. I loved my job. I just wished I could find them all loving homes. And I couldn’t wait to help this mother and son find the perfect puppy for their family. “Here we are!” I smiled and turned around.”

The mother smiled and patted her son on the head to go look at the puppies. He slowly and shyly let go of his mothers leg and walked over to the window right in front of him. I cold see his reflection in the window as his face was bright and full of happiness and joy just from watching two Jack Russell Terrier puppies play with each other on the other side of the glass.

“Is there a specific breed you are looking for?” I asked the mother while she watched her son with a smile.

“No.” she couldn’t stop smiling at her son. “Anything he wants.” she paused. “I just want him to be happy. He’s been so sad lately.” I could feel the concern in her voice. I didn’t know if there was a reason for his sadness but I knew that just by his smile that a puppy would be the best thing for him. I walked over to her son and kneeled down next to him. He was now at a window with a Yorkie that was all by its self. I watched as he placed his little hand on the window and the puppy ran up to the window and licked where his hand was. This made him giggle. It had to be the sweetest giggle I’ve heard come from a little boy.

“What’s your name?” I asked him as I watched him smile.

“Liam.” his smile never left.

“That’s a nice name.” I said smiling back as he turned to look at me with shock. “You know, I know someone with the same name!” I told him. His little face had even more shock on it than before. “Yep and you know what.” I asked him. I was expecting him to just stare at me or shack his head.

“No.” Liam replied with the shyness in his voice. I couldn’t help but want to squish him.

“He’s…” I paused.

“He’s what?” He said with just the most adorable brown eyes.

“He’s… TICKELISH!” I said as I tickled the little boy making him giggle and laugh. His mother standing watching had a tear come to her eye as she watched her son laugh. Almost like he hasn’t down it in a long time. As I stopped ticking him he didn’t seem as shy as he was. “You know what else?” I told him. He wrapped his little arms around himself to protect him incase I tickled him again.

“What?” he asked with little rosy cheeks.

“He loves puppies!” I couldn’t help but smile knowing that I was making this little boy so happy.

“I LOVE PUPPIES!” he was so excited. His eyes lit up.

“Well lets find you a puppy!” I held out my hand. He looked at it for a second but then took it and pulled me to the next window.

I took my time to find him the perfect puppy. I would pick him up to see the windows that were up high so that he could see. He was having a blast. But the one that he kept going back to was a Husky puppy that would get excited every time he came to the window. And knowing that this puppy never gets like that with any other customers I knew that he was the perfect one for Liam.

“MOMMY MOMMY!” Liam said running over to his mom pulling her arm toward the Husky. “I want him! Can I have him please mommy!”

“Of course you can sweetheart.” she said without hesitation.

“YAY!” Liam jumped up and down with excitement as he pressed his nose up against the glass watching his new best friend wag his tail and bounce around.

“I’ll be right back with him.” I told the mother and Liam. I walked into the room that was behind the puppy wall and open the door to get the puppy.

“Wow!” I jumped as I stood up with the puppy in my arms. Jake stood there arms crossed and in my way.

“What do you want Jake?” I asked annoyed and pushed past him. Jake is the jerk of the store. He thinks he’s all that. Probably cause all those footballs to the head messed up his brain. He was a jerk in high school and now I had to work with him. You know I thought that when you get out of high school you don’t have to see all your class mates until the reunion.

“Oh nothing. Just that you’re taking my sales.” he said leaning up against the table as I gathered the papers I needed for the adoption.

“Ha! Your sales!” I laughed. “Since when was this just your job. You know. You don’t even help the customers. You don’t even help the puppies. So don’t tell me I’m taking ’your sales’.” He just stood there and smirked. I wanted to punch his lights out so bad.

“So I hear you’re going to that stupid whatever you call them concert.” My “I want to hurt you” look wasn’t even phasing him. “I hear there’s tons of  kidnapping and stuff happening down there. You uh… might need a strong sexy guy like me to protect you.”

“Oh just shut up and get over your self. I don’t want to hear your stories. And I defiantly don’t need your protection.” I said rolling my eyes and leaving him in the room all by himself. He’s such a compulsive liar and thief and over all tool that I could care less what he says. None of it matters to me.
