Breathe
Chapter 1
My eyes closed as I try to heighten my senses and steady my heart beat. Taking deep slow breaths. Standing in a strong and ready position, ready for anything. I can feel my heart slow down and my breathing is under control. Mentally and physically preparing myself for what was about to happen.
BEEEEEPP
My heart starts back up as I open my eyes and shoot. I run behind a wall for cover and take a quick clean shot and quickly moving. As I jump into a car and shoot out the passenger window I come to my last bullet and I have to change my mag. I quickly drop the empty magazine and reload with a new one from my back pants pocket. I take a shot and jump out of the car and run behind another wall. Taking cover, I slow my breathing. I have to get this right or there’s going to be consequences. I turn around the corner of the wall shooting 3 bullets into the chest and one in the head.
“TIME!” I can hear the caller behind me very faintly yell because of my special earmuffs I have on. As well as everyone else at the shooting range.
“Clear.” he says signaling me to unload my gun. As I pull the clutch back the last bullet pops out and onto the ground. Letting me know that my gun is not loaded and is safe to be put away.
“Paisley that was amazing!” my dad said as he came up to congratulate me on my record. “You’re getting really good.” he said with the biggest smile. Which is an accomplishment for anyone to make him smile. “Keep it up! You‘ll be a pro in no time!”
Yep that’s right… I was shooting a real gun. But don’t worry not at actual people. They are just cardboard. My dad, little sister and I go shooting on Sundays to NRA shooting ranges. They have competitions all the time. But you don’t really win anything. It’s just to see who has the best time and accuracy when shooting their gun. And it also teaches you what to do in any situation to where you might have to use your gun.
But me being me I wanted to do more to know that I can protect myself incase anything were to happen. So I also take kick boxing, karate, and defense training classes. It’s super fun cause I feel like I’m a secret agent/spy/FBI agent. I can do all those fighting moves that you see in the movies. Which is always fun to know how to do.
My name’s Paisley and I’m a 23 year old butt kicking machine. Well… I like to think so. Really I’m just a regular 23 year old girl. You know the ones that like to hang out with friends, play sports, listen to music and dance around in her room not caring if anyone is watching. But since I am 23 I have more responsibility. I have my cosmetology license, for those who don’t know what that is… it’s a hairdresser, but seeing as it a hard career to find a job in, I have two part time jobs. Im a Zumba Instructor & I have a job at a pet shop, with my friend Alex who is almost a younger version of me. But more of a book worm and doesn’t play sports. And doesn’t have a license to carry a counseled weapon. Unlike me. But in the state of Ohio there’s really no reason to have one.
Nothing ever happens here. Making it not an exciting state. The only things that are cool about Ohio is that we have the number 1 amusement park in the world… Cedar Point. Then there’s a few other things like the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, the Ohio State Buckeyes, O-H! (everyone around you screams back, I-O!), and corn. Lots and lots of corn. And sure there’s other stuff like the TV show Glee is based in Ohio. But they even make fun of Ohio. Yep… we are the turd state.
“Paisley!” my 17 year old little sister Serena yelled at me as she stomped over from the loading table. “You have to be cheating!” I just looked at her like she was nuts. Cause I most of the time think she truly is.
“How am I cheating? This is like the hardest thing to cheat at.” I said walking past her and back to the loading table to get my gun ready for the next course. ‘It’s not like we are playing chess or checkers and I made you look away and took one of your playing pieces.”
“BUT YOU DO THAT!” she yelled at me giving me the dirtiest look. Thank goodness I had my earmuffs on still.
“Serena… chill! Look I’m sorry that I’m getting better at this than you.” Yea she is getting really jealous of me lately. She has been going shooting with my dad longer than I have and I’m beating her record. “Just practice more. Your very accurate. I’m just faster. Have you seen my shots? They are like all over.”
“Oh really… well explain those.” she said pointing behind her at the targets I was just shooting at. I looked up from my bag that I had just placed my gun in and over her shoulder. I narrowed my eyes as I looked at the targets. All my shots were right on target and all with-in inches apart from each other. My aim was almost perfect! But I didn’t want her to see how excited I was so I just played it cool.
“Oh wow.” I laughed while secretly I was all giddy inside “I guess you’re right.” I said trying to make her happy so that I didn’t have to deal with stupid stuff and just chill while everyone else was still shooting. In just 3 days I was going to be on my way to Columbus with Alex to see the worlds biggest boy band ever.
Of course there was Nsync and Backstreet Boys back in my day, cause I’m so old I would remember all that. No, I’m talking about the British/Irish boy band, One Direction! The UK X Factor 3rd place act that has taken over the world with their music, good looks, and mostly their accents!
The group consist of, the Irish one, Niall Horan. The curly haired one, Harry Styles, The HOTTIE (for me) of the group, Liam Payne. The funny/crazy one Louis Tomlinson. And the mysterious moody one, Zayn Malik.
And being a fan girl in this century I took to the internet. Yes… I have a twitter. And I’m not ashamed of it. I’ve met some awesome people on there. And a lot of them are from Ohio like me. Just last year the boys (that’s what we call them) were touring in the U.S. but they weren’t coming to Ohio. But I wouldn’t blame them. Snores-ville! So all us Ohio Directioners, that’s what we call ourselves, decided to do what ever we could to get them to have a concert, signing, just a walk through, ANYTHING!
We were all about to give up when they announced that they were going to have a world tour. And so with a little hard work we made it all possible and we finally got out concert. WHICH I CANT WAIT FOR!! I’M GONNA GO NUTS!!
“Of course I’m right!” I heard my little sister yell at me bringing me back from my little One Direction world.
“Huh?” I answered subconsciously. I wasn’t even paying attention to her after I started thinking about how close June 18th was.
“You weren’t listening to me were you?” she said putting her hands on her hips with a little hips nudge to the side.
“Nope.” I just said not wanting to cause any problems. We were sitting buy guns and ammo after all.
“Oh my god! Were you thinking about your stupid band?” I looked up from my bag as I took my ipod out so I could listen to music. “You’re 23 and you’re obsessed with a kids band.”
“Ok just because I’m 23 doesn’t mean I cant like their music.” I argued back getting a little frustrated.
“But you’re obsessed! And its just weird.” she came back at me and got up and started to walk away.
“I’M NOT OBSESSED!” I shouted back.
“Whatever.” she said throwing her hand up in the air not giving a crap.
I don’t get it. She’s a 17 year old girl. She should be more into them then me. But no… she has to be way to mature for her age and has to be a smarty pants and us all these big words that probably don’t even exist to confuse me.
“Whatever.” I said to myself as I put my ear plugs in and my earmuffs overtop to help block out the gun shots so that I can just relax and enjoy my music and day dream about the amazing concert that was just a few days away.
