The day starts normal. First hour art passes, second hour music passes. Third hour is slowly in progress. My friends, Denise and Richelle, are goofing off with me in the back of the class. The teacher keeps throwing glares at us as we laugh boisterously, but there isn't anything she could do. My father and mother are the CEO's of the biggest company in the world. Don't get me wrong, I'm not one of those stuck up rich brats, but my family does have a big influence on this school.

Actually I'm a really shy and quiet person when I'm not surrounded by my three friends.

Not.

Anyway, the teacher throws us another hostile glare when the speaker overhead cackles to life, filling out ears with static.

"Ryliee Smith, to the office please." Our principles voice rings out over us and the class stops talking. A round of 'oohs' and 'someone's in trouble' comes from the class, but the teacher shushes them and sends me a sympathetic look.

I frown. Why was she being all sympathetic all of a sudden? I gather my things and shove them into my bag and walk out the door, throwing my friends a quick see you later.

The halls are empty as I walk up the staircase of Livingston High. Three stories high and I have to be the farthest from the office on the first floor. It takes seven minutes to get to the office

When I get there, the principle was standing in front of the doorway. "Come on in Ryliee." I follow him inside and see my parents standing in his office.

"Mom? Dad? What are you doing here?" I ask and my mother smiles at me. She shakes her head and sits down in one of the chairs by Mr. Greenway's desk. Dad walks up behind her and places a hand on her shoulder.

"Honey-" my dad begins but Mr. Greenway cuts him off.

"You're parents have some news to tell you, Miss Smith." He folds his hands on top of the desk.

"And I could have known it by now if you hadn't interrupted." I pointed out rudely.

"RylieeAnne." My mother scolds and I wince as she uses my full name.

"Mom," I pout. "It's just Ryliee."

She rolls her eyes. "Oh well. Now be nice to Mr. Greenway. Your father and I do have some news. Due to a business trip to our new location, we will be traveling to Paris, France." My mom explains to me.

My eyes fill with excitement. "We're going to Paris?" I scream excitedly.

My dad cringes slightly. "Well," he fidgets uncomfortably. "That's the thing. We are going," he waves a finger connecting mom and him. "You are not."

I sit there, absorbing this new information. "What?" I ask. "It's sounds like you just said I'm not going to Paris with you." I laugh.

Their solemn faces shut me up. "You're kidding right? Right?" I plead. "You can't leave me behind! I'll be lonely and miss all the fun! Why won't you take me?" Tears were starting to form in my eyes and cloud my vision. "For a whole year I won't see you!"

My dads eyes soften. "It will be okay honey. We'll be back before Christmas next year. Don't worry. Everything will be fine." He kisses the top of my head.

"Okay," I sigh.

"But," uh oh. "You can't stay here alone." He added.

"W- what do you mean?"

"You're moving to Michigan to live with an old family friend. It's only a couple hours away. You've met them once or twice when you were little. Rosie and her kids." He ruffles my hair. "We have to leave for the airport in three days so you're going to have to pack up and we'll drive you there tonight."
