Four Years Later-
Age 5
-
"Daddy, Daddy, Daddy, Daddy!" A tiny little blonde headed toddler, clad in a dress like t-shirt that ended at her feet and a snapback, ran up to my leg and nearly tripped over her own little feet.
"Hi darling." I picked her up. "Did you dress yourself today?" I inquired witha smile. She had grown up so much over the years, I still couldn't believe she was turning five years old in a few days.
Olive shook her head. "Uncle Zaynie picked out my clothes today!" Her little hand brush the brim of her hat. "He even let me wear one of his hats!" Zayn had developed a soft spot for my toddler after one of our headlining tours ends a few years back. She was a little gift sent to all of us.
"Tell Zayn he did a wonderful job dressing you." I kissed her forehead and set her back on the ground. "Wait, Princess!" Olive turned around and gave me a questioning look. "Go wake up Uncle Harry and Lou for me? Tell them breakfast is ready and waiting for them. Her green eyes shared a mysterious twinkle in the light that reflected off of her. This was something she had picked up from being around Harry so much.
I took to the kitchen to reheat Harry and Louis's breakfast. It had gone cold a while ago, but I'm sure they wouldn't have minded if it reheated.
Since the moment I got custody of Olive, my life had changed completely. When the fans found out that I was caring for a toddler they weren't very supportive, but eventually they learned the story behind it and they showed support for my decision. The boys had eventually adopted Olive as their own little niece. The first few months were terrible. She would constantly cry and whine, but with age she started to mellow out and she's become a well behaved toddler.
From the hallway in my flat I could hear Olive's precious giggles sound through the house.
"Uncle Harry... Stop it....I'm gonna...pee!" Harry and Olive appeared in the living room. Harry was tickling her all over and making her laugh ununcontrollably
"Not until you say Uncle Harry is better!" Harry said. I rolled my eyes at him. I envied how good of a father he would be when he had his own kids. He knew how to get on her level when he disciplined her. Something I could never do. I would always be too lenient, so she knew she could walk all over me.
"No! Daddy is better!" Olive licked his hand and ran straight into my arms, where she belonged.
"I love you too, Princess." I kissed her little cheek and patted her back. She went off running into the hallway of our flat and disappeared into her room.
I took a seat with Lou and Harry on the island bar. Harry shoved a few pieces of his food into his mouth and gave me a weird look.
"Have you planned her birthday party yet? Her birthday is next week you know." Louis nodded in agreement with Harry. This is all the boys had been asked me for months. This was the biggest milestone Olive has reached and as a father, I felt extremely proud of her.
She would be starting school in just a few months and I was going to miss her extremely. I decided against hiring a private tutor because she deserved to have a real school experience
"I"ve gone over this with you guys a lot. It's a surprise."
----
"You don't know you you're beautiful!"
"Happy Birthday, Sunshine!" Me and the boys shouted in union. We had decided that we would wake her up by singing to her.
Olive couldn't contain herself and shouted in pure excitement.
"Daddy you're amazing! You too Uncle Harry and Lou, but not as much as my daddy!"
"What about Uncle Zayn and Liam?" I pointed to the other lads and were pouting.
"I love them too! Not as much as you though."
"Aww." The boys chorused.
Later the same day. We took a car ride down to Disneyland, Olive's favorite place in the entire world. The boys seemed a bit more eager about arriving at Disneyland than Olive though. The minute we parked, they were already out the door and looking for an empty tram.
"Let's go, babe." I undid her seat belt and took her off of her car seat. She too went running after her uncles.
We spent the entire day on all the ride Olive was tall enough to go on, which weren't a lot, but she had fun nevertheless.
----
"Dad, I'm fine. You can go now."
"Are you sure? Don't you want me to sit with you for the first day of school?"
"No, I'm a big girl now Daddy. Here," Olive let go of my hand to reach into her oversized backpack. "You can have Mr. Squishy. He'll make you feel better while I'm at school." Olive smiled her crooked smile and it made my heart melt.
"Are you sure you don't need Mr. Squishy?"
"I think you need it more than me dad." I smiled and took her in a huge hug and let her go.
"I'll see you at twelve, Princess." I kissed her forehead and let her walk into her Kindergarten class on her own.
These past five years have been some of the best years of my life. It sadness me to think that one day Olive will fall in love and will move out on her own with a new man in her life. At least I still had a couple more years to enjoy her.
