I walk down the hallways, and no one even glances my way. I could wear slutty clothes; still no one would seem to know. And if they do look at me, it's like I'm a piece of gum that they got off the side of road, that stuck the the bottom of their shoe.
I'm like what you would call the person on the bottom of the popularity triangle. Okay, I'm not even on it. If you were to draw out a triangle and list every one on it, it would go like this:
JocksYou know what, I'm not going to go any further. I'm sure you all know how the popularity triangle goes. And if you don't, well....
To say the least, I'm really, really unpopular. But I'm not the unpopular that gets tripped in hallways, or has their books knocked out of their hands. I'm just invisible.
"Hey, Ruffles," I great my best friend outside at the school parking lot.
"Hi, Pizza," - She replies back, walking towards me with her arms full of books. That looks like they are fixing to fall out of her hand at any moment.-"tell me again why we do this school thing?"
"Well, my friend,"- I got to open my car door-"it's because we need to get an education. Aaaaand it's the law."
"Uhhh."
"Are you still coming over to study?"
"Well, I technically don't need to study. Buuut, I will help you study."
We walk into my house a couple minutes later.
"Mom! I'm home and I've brought Ruffles!"
My mom comes walking out of kitchen while saying, "Ruffles? Why would you go to the store and buy Ruffles? We already have some here for Marley."
"Mom, Marley is Ruffles."
A couple months ago Marley and I decided to call each other by our favorite foods. We were sitting in my room when a commercial came on and said, "You are what you eat." And she said that I was pizza, because I eat It way too much. I said that she was Ruffles because she eats them everyday after school. Or whenever. And that's how our names came to be.
My mom looks at me like I'm crazy. "Aria, are you crazy?" Yeah, I thought so.
"I thought I told you about this. Yet maybe I didn't."
Marley looks over at me with pleading eyes. She's ready to go up stairs and dig into the stash of Ruffles hidden in my room.
"Mom, I'll tell you about this later."
We head up stairs and Ruffles dives right into the chips. While I on the other hand dive onto my bed and turn on the TV.
" Do you ever wish we were noticed in school?" I ask out of no where.
Marley stops cramming the chip in her mouth, and looks at me like a deer in the head lights. "What do you mean?"
"I just wonder what it would be like not being invisible all the time. You know, get noticed by people. Have guys look look at you and check you out, I don't know. Or maybe just once have the teachers know who you are, instead of them calling me 'Pablo'."
"Aria, I don't think it's a bad thing that we don't get noticed. In fact, I think it's a good thing."
I sigh, "You do, why?"
"Just think about it. We could skip class, not turn in homework, or even prank people without getting caught. "
