As days passed, Taylor felt a little sadder and sadder every day. She was suffocating under all of the embarrassment and grief she was feeling. She had let Harry go. She let him walk out of her life without stopping him. She felt like being angry was better than feeling sad. She couldn't get rid of the weight on her chest and the gap between her lungs, making it hard to breathe.
Thanksgiving day was like a breath of fresh air. She saw his smile. She had a conversation with him. She heard him laugh.
She was drowning and everytime she saw Harry she came up for air, until the next smile she saw of his.
Harry wasn't doing much better. He felt guilty and still confused for what he had done to Taylor. He was just distracted by reality. They both had finals coming up and then it was break. Harry was wondering about how the year with Taylor started. He didn't even know her as well as he does.
He remembers just watching her across the classroom and admiring all of the things he never knew about her, that he knows now. He misses the days when Taylor had her nose in a book that she couldn't put down. He misses the days when he would pump himself up before finding a reason to talk to her.
He finds it ironic that it's like that now, despite everything. He can't just walk up to Taylor and hug her anymore. He doesn't see her reading any books because she's too busy biting her nails and watching the world around her. He doesn't get to wonder what her daily routine is anymore, because he knows.
He knows her. He knows her laugh. He knows her cry. He knows when she's being playful. He knows when she is really mad. He knows what she means when she says things like "you're stupid" or something of that nature.
It's killing him that he doesn't know why they fell out.
Taylor was dying to tell him but she thought it was an invasion on his life. She didn't want to ruin how happy he was with his girlfriend.
"Taylor?" Andrea called for Taylor's attention. Taylor looked across the dinner table and smiled at her suspicious mother. "Is everything alright, love?" She asked.
Taylor nodded with a smile and spun some spaghetti in to her fork. They ate their dinner in peace and taylor washed dishes afterwards. When Andrea when upstairs to go to bed, Taylor walked outside with a bag of garbage, and looked at the house across from them.
Even though it was dark, she couldn't help picturing what Harry was doing. She remembered when she didn't know her neighbor. She also remembers not knowing she had a neighbor.
With a silent giggle, Taylor walked back inside and shut the lights off. She walked upstairs and got into her bed. The rest of the night went by and taylor hadn't slept. She tried and tried to come up with what she wanted to say to Harry to fix what she broke.
But just like drowning, she had to fight for air.
