"grace -"

"louis."

louis' mum glared at him from her place in the kitchen, standing by the kettle with a cup of coffee in her pale hand. louis, chewing on a piece of toast smothered in jam, looked back defiantly. the silent staring war ended when he dropped his gaze, keeping a sour look on his face.

"don't. please," his mum was already turning on the tone, a gross pleading, faux hurt voice which she tended to use whenever this subject was brought up. this meant an argument was coming, and louis didn't want one of those at 7:33 in the morning on his first day back at school.

he scoffed, standing up to walk out of the room. without looking at his mother, he tossed the toast crust in the bin and stepped towards the door. he heard his mum say a harsh "grace!" and his cheeks burned in anger. a sick feeling was in his stomach, he wanted to cry and scream and hit something and hit her and hit himself. amazing how one word - one name - could have that effect on him.

he didn't let tears spill until he was behind his locked bedroom door. he never did.
