"So what did your brother say?"
Floating on our backs in the sea, Olivia and I both gazed up at the star speckled sky whilst we drifted closer into shore with each wave. I let out a soft breath at her question, "Pretty much that he had more important things to do."
"More important things to do?" There was an edge of annoyance in Olivia's tone, which took a lot to provoke. "More important than your scholarship and future?"
"Ask him. Oh no wait you can't, he's run away with his motorbike buddies," I muttered. I'd cheered up, even now the subject of my brother seemed less of a burden hanging over me. It may have had something to do with the fact that we were both still naked in a public place and that was rather distracting. Though I had to admit that Olivia was good at pep talks; he was still my brother and no matter what he did I wasn't going to cut him out of my life. Though he did owe me a lot of chocolate to make up with how much of an idiot he'd been recently.
"Speaking of which," Olivia mused, her voice taking on a lighter tone. "Any of them something nice to look at?"
"Why? You want to join their gang?" I enquired, cocking an eyebrow at her. I shifted in the water to place my feet down against the sand and my friend copied me, though this only revealed the grin on her face.
"Depends on how nice they are to look at. Going by your brother's looks I think I'd say they were pretty easy on the eyes," Olivia winked at me and I splashed her, scowling.
"I told you not to talk about my brother that way. At least in front of me."
Olivia laughed, wiping the water off of her face, "Come on, have you seen your brother?"
"Yes, driving away on a motorbike with his new friends. Can we focus on pitying me rather than your inappropriate infatuation with him, please?" Olivia rolled her eyes, but her smiled remained in place.
"Fine, fine," she waved a hand at me. "Continue with your pity party."
I smiled but shook my head, splashing her again, "Shut up."
"Hey!" Olivia laughed but smacked her hand against the water in return, getting me right in the face. I gasped but copied the gesture until we were full on attacking one another with harmless, if salty, cascades of liquid.
"There they are!" A yell from the beach caused us to desist in our actions though we were both laughing. Turning to see where the call had come from, I squinted against the lights of the docks. Two figures were walking down the beach. I hesitated then, my smile fading and my heartbeat picking up.
"Um, Liv?"
"Yeah...?"
"Are they...are they coming towards us?" I asked, concerned. Though not that they intended to cause us any harm, but more that we were naked and that whoever it was was about to find the pile of clothing on the beach.
