Chapter 12

I quickly got out of the water before they could break the surface. I ran out the door, slipping and sliding on the tile floor in the hallway downstairs. The door was in sight, I sped off towards it...just a few more steps... I got to the door. Fidgeting with the locks, trying to get them open. "Saige" I heard someone call. I frantically unlocked the door, and swung it open. Right as I was swinging it shut, I caught a glimpse of Ryder and Kade. I saw the fear in their eyes. I turned around and sprinted off, running down the steps, and down the driveway. I heard the door swing open, "Saige" they called again. I ran faster. I could hear their heavy footsteps getting closer. I cursed under my breath as I began to stumble. I quickly regained balance, and ran faster. I made a sharp turn and jumped over a fence, running in the yard, towards the back.

I glanced back, and panicked...they were about a few feet away. I hopped another fence, running in a forest. A pain shot through my foot as I stepped on multiple twigs, but with all the adrenaline I had...I kept moving forward, dodging every tree that came into sight. I quickly hopped over tree roots protruding from the ground. The nearby sound of leaves crunching indicated that they were close. I sprinted faster.

I felt my stomach drop as my foot stepped into thin air. I looked down, "Shit" I cursed under my breath. Jagged rocks were protruding from the ocean, right below the cliff. I spun around, just as Kade and Ryder came into view, "Shit...I can't wait til we change" Ryder said resting his hands above his head. I stared at them wide eyed. "Please just let me leave..." I cried. "I can't do that Saige...he'll find you, and chances are...when he does he'll kill you, or make your life a living hell" Kade said stepping towards me.

A tear slid down my face as I looked back, "Saige no" Kade said moving closer. I shook my head, "I can't live like this" I whispered. He cautiously stepped closer, "You can't just waste your life" he whispered. "Why do you care" I shouted, glancing back when the sound of waves crashing against rocks came into focus. "Because you have so much to live for Saige...don't waste your life on something stupid like this" he snapped. "I'd rather be dead, than be held prisoner by the same man who killed my sister" I spat. He stepped closer to me, now only about a foot away. "Saige don't do this" he whispered. I looked into his eyes, "Forgive me" I whispered as a tear slid down my face. I stepped back.

The feeling of falling was abruptly cut short when I hit a rock wall, and my arm was being pulled on. I opened my eyes and glanced up, I could see the fear in his eyes. "Ryder help" He yelled. His grasp was loosening from the water that was still on our bodies. He wiped his other hand off and gripped my wrist with both hands. Ryder came to his side. "What do I do" he asked looking around frantically. I could see him struggling to pull me up, "Kade" I whispered. Our eyes met, "Let me go" I whispered as a tear slid down my face, "I'll be okay" I said trying to muster up the most convincing smile I could. His eyes widened, and he shook his head. "Let me go" I repeated. His grip started to slip. He looked back at Ryder, "You need to push me down" he said in a serious tone. "Wait what" Ryder shouted, "Are you fucking crazy" he yelled. "Ryder just do it" he demanded. Ryder shook his head, "I can't...I can't lose anyone else" he whispered. "Ryder this isn't about you...look I promise you I'll be fine...just do this one thing for me" he said struggling to keep a grip on my wrist. Ryder shook his head, "I can't" he whispered again. "Fine" he said as he start to slid off the cliff.

He let go of my wrist, and I began to fall. I could feel my stomach dropping again. "Kade no" I heard Ryder yell. I felt someone grab me and shield my body. "You're right...you'll be okay" he whispered. I felt our bodies hit something solid, and he let out an inhuman sound. I slid into the water, suddenly trapped against the rocks, and the wave crashing into me. Wave after wave pinned me against the sharp rocks, the water sharply whipping across my skin. I screamed as the pain intensified, swallowing water in the process. The wave crashed so hard against me, that my head whipped back and hit against the rock, causing my eyes to flutter. Another wave crashed into me, and my eyes slipped shut.
