Grace's P.O.V

Canada? Home of hockey and maple syrup? Of all places, Canada?!

After Finnick told me where I was the conversation ended. He lead me to a cute little cafe where everyone was all too content to stare at me like a rat in a cage. I sat and crossed my arms, glaring at Finnick, and he kept his menu high, obviously trying to ignore the fact that I was glaring at him.

A cute girl who couldn't have been more than 16 approached, keeping her eyes on me like everyone else here. So I gave her the stink eye too, she squeaked and quickly turned her attention to Finnick "Will you be getting your usual Alpha Blackwood?" she asked, casting me a nervous glance.

Finnick cleared his throat "Yes that would be lovely Emily, what about you Grace?" he set down his menu and looked up at me, making an obvious effort to hold my gaze. He wanted to look away, he was scared. I fought the urge to smile.

I glanced at the menu "Chocolate chip pancakes and apple juice." and handed the girl, Emily my menu. She nodded and quickly scribbled down the order and scurried off back to the kitchen. Very soon I could hear whispering around the cafe, most likely about me considering they kept glancing my direction, but I just kept on glaring at Finnick, watching him squirm.

Finally he broke. He made a puppy like whimper and hung his head and looked at me with big puppy dog eyes "I'm sorry, I should've told you sooner, but there's nothing I can do about it now, you're here, you know our secret, I can't just send you back to Oregon."

"Oh, so now you're saying you can't trust me?" I snipped.

"What? No! I-" he dropped his head onto the table, making a loud 'thud' sound gaining the attention of everyone in the cafe. Quickly he sat up straight,  hardening his expression. It didn't fool me for a second. "I'm not saying I don't trust you Grace. I'm sure you'll stay as tight lipped as you can, it's the other humans out there that I don't trust. They ask too many questions, someones bound to squeeze the truth out of you, and then it'll spread like wild fire." He sighed and scrubbed his face with his hands "all it takes is one human that believes werewolves are real and we'll get hunted down."

"That is if they don't get thrown in an asylum first." I said, uncrossing my arms and reaching for my glass of apple juice that Emily brought out. She was watching me skeptically, which was starting to get on my nerves. I quickly started drinking to keep from snapping at her.

Finnick gave Emily a quick smile before he picked up his coffee "I suppose that's true, but there are already bound to be people that believe in werewolves, either because they have disgusting fantasies, or they've seen some sign of proof."

I set down my glass "How can they if you're so careful to keep yourselves hidden?" I asked, now playing with my straw wrapper.

Finnick sat back in his chair "Some packs are more careful than others, even then there are lone wolves and rogues that couldn't care less about being seen, so long as they get to have their fun and have full bellies." Finnick's face was twisted in disgust.

"Are they dangerous to humans...?" I asked softly.

Finnick looked up at me and smiled softly "Lonewolves aren't much of a threat to anyone. They usually just don't like wolves. They usually live out their lives quietly as humans. It's the rogues that are dangerous. Rogues don't leave the pack by choice, they're usually thrown out because they've broken rules or are a danger to others in the pack."

"So you release them to the human world so they can be a danger to humans?" I asked, completely taken aback.

"Well... Yes and no. When they're banished we send alerts out to other packs and to locale police stations so they can keep an eye out. We're trying to live in peace with the humans, we're not going to send a dangerous wolf out into the world without some warning."

I narrowed my eyes at him as our food was brought out. The sweet smell of chocolate chip wiped away all my other bitter thoughts, I almost considered accepting Finnick's apology. Finnick had a heaping plate of eggs, bacon, and toast, he rubbed his hands together greedily. Emily refilled his coffee and glanced at me once again before scurrying back to the kitchen.

"Okay, what's the deal, why is everyone staring at me?" I asked Finnick, starting to get a little hot under the collar. I really didn't like it when people stared at me, I had done absolutely nothing to deserve being looked at like an insect under a microscope.

Finnick glanced around the corners of his mouth pointing down slightly "Well, you are a human in the territory, not only that but you're dining with the alpha." he said, taking a bite of his toast.

"So you haven't told them...?"

"What that you're my mate?" when he said mate almost everyone gasped, a handful of young attractive girls knees hit the table as they jumped. Finnick looked around and smiled "They know now."

I scowled at him "That's not funny Finnick. I'm not some lab experiment, I don't appreciate being stared at," I cut into my pancakes "and if I'm so important as your mate why are you waiting until now to tell your pack?"

Finnick's chewing slowed and he looked guilty "You're right, I'm sorry."

I huffed "Fine. You're forgiven, but you're still not forgiven for bringing me to Canada against my will."

He pouted slightly "But I didn't bring you here."

"Then you're not forgiven for not taking me back." I said, taking a nice big bite of my pancakes, which was delicious.

He sighed heavily "How can I earn your forgiveness?" he asked.

I studied him for a moment. He looked even sexier than he had back at the diner, his hair was a bit of a mess, and his eyes were soft, and sincere. My eyes wondered down to his plate "You can start by giving me your bacon."

He looked down at his plate and pouted "Can't I just get you some of your own?"

I reached across the table and snagged a piece "Nope. Food always tastes better stolen." I grinned, taking a bite.
