What Do We Do Now?

Dr. Holmes had a bandage on his face from where my 'father' had hit him. I went over and sat on mom's lap. She was stoking my hair. Then Dr. Holmes started talking. "I have news in Hailey. She's still in surgery. Her heart gave up a while ago and she is on life support. Her heartbeat is very faint and far apart. There's a increased chance she may not make it." This is when he kneels next to us, eye to eye, "But I promise, we are doing everything we possibly can. She will make it through this." Mom started bawling. I sat here, shocked, then stood up. My brain was not functioning right, and I walked right out of the room. I had no idea where I was going. I was just walking. Who knows where I was. I'm pretty sure nobody followed me. For some reason I wish one of them did, any of them, even my father. All I needed right then was a hug and Hailey........
