It'd been two weeks since Jaylin's accident. All she knew was that she was seventeen, she had no family, and that she liked Trey. She finally "knew" the boys. Well, their names at least. Today was the day that Jaylin would be discharged, because Greyson's mom offered to take her in. The doctors figured since she knew the basics about herself and the general world, that she would be fine.
Jaylin was happier. The girl before the crash was always upset, wanting more out of life, and always wanting to cry. THIS girl was cheerful, funny, attentive, and had the most beautiful laugh anyone could ever hear. Zach and Beau were sitting with Jaylin while Greyson, Trey, and Greyson's mom, Hilary, were out discharging Jaylin.
"So," Beau said. "Are you happy to be leaving?"
Jaylin nodded. "This place kinda scares me, and this bed is uncomfortable."
"Well, Ms. Hilary is cool. You'll like it at her house. Of course, Greyson will love having you there," Zach said.
She just nodded. Although she was happy, she deeply missed her parents. She wanted to remember them, remember what happened to them. But her mind was blank. She tossed the issue aside as best she could and focused on Zach and Beau. When Hilary, Greyson, and Trey came back, Jaylin sat up. She was ready to get out of here and see the outside world.
"Hi, sweetie," Hilary said. "Here's your clothes, so you can change."
Jaylin took them from her and all the boys asked at once, "Do you need help?"
Jaylin laughed at the boys' eagerness to help her change. She looked at Hilary for what to say, because Jaylin still didn't know a whole lot.
"Nice try, boys," Hilary said. "Jaylin, do you remember how to get dressed?"
Jaylin looked at her jeans, her shirt, her socks, and her shoes and back at Hilary. "I think I can do it."
"Well, let me know if you get stuck," Trey said with a smirk.
Jaylin went into the bathroom that was adjoined to her hospital room and took of her way too baggy hospital gown. She set her clothes on the toilet seat and picked up her jeans. She looked at the tag and it said, "Levi's. Size 1." She notice the zipper and button on the other side and slipped her legs into the dark blue denim. She liked the feel of jeans against her skin.
After she zipped her jeans and buttoned them, she lifted up her shirt. It was an ordinary t-shirt that had an abstract design on them. Plus, there was lots of silver glitter on the black shirt. She read the tag on the back of the shirt and it said, "S." Jaylin didn't know what "s" stood for, but figured out how to pull the shirt over her head and slid her arms through the appropriate holes.
She sat down and grabbed her socks. She had no trouble with those. She literally put two and two together to get her socks on. Lastly, her tennis shoes. She didn't remember, but these tennis shoes were given to her on her sixteenth birthday. She wore them every day. She saw how the shoes resembled her feet and slipped them on, but she didn't know how to tie them.
She stood and saw herself in the mirror. She touched the glass and flinched at how cold it was. She saw a beautiful girl with her chocolate brown hair, her pale skin, and she looked at her eyes. They just fascinated her. Everyone else she saw had blue, brown, or even green eyes. But she hadn't seen one person with the same color eyes as she did. This made her feel special.
Knocks at the door scared her. "Jaylin, sweetie, are you alright?" Hilary asked.
"Yes ma'am, I'm actually done," Jaylin said. She picked up the manners from Gwen, who was a frequent visitor, in Jaylin's room.
