You groan as the bell rung, indicating another customer in the shop. You stand behind the little kiosk flipping through a magazine, reading the latest gossip on some celebrity. The customers footsteps echo as they walk along the aisle, browsing behind the tall shelfs. You don't even notice the steps striding towards you until you hear the person clear their throat rudely way to grasp your attention. You try not to roll your eyes as they flick from the magazine to a pair of white sneakers standing before the counter, toes pointed at you. You try not to make you sigh too obvious as you recite the usual perky greeting "Hello, hows your day going?" The electric spark that jolts through you robs you of the breath in your lungs. You'd know those blue eyes anywhere. Him. It's the last coherent thought you can make before as your stomach feels like it's layered in flames. You immediately avert your gaze. Not like this. You were just a little girl. How can he still do this to you? No.
"Oh I'm having a great day, and yourself?" He replies. You nod and mumble "Great" not sure if it was an positive statement about his day or the answer to his question. Still not able to meet his gaze I grab the ideas he's chosen from the aisles. Your hands shaking and pulse erratically jumping in your chest. You can feel the weight of his eyes on you, your cheeks tingle with heat. You hated blushing even back then. You hastily peer up through thick lashes to mistakenly meet his aqua gaze. "Will that be all today?" You stutter. "Yea that'll be all.." He brow furrows and his head tilts slightly. "You look so familiar..." A smile curves up on his lisp and he glances to the floor shaking his head. You have never experienced such nerve-wracking silence since the eight seconds he trailed off his sentence. You sighed and closed your eyes. Embarrassed on how quickly you had recognized the blue of his eyes. You've known him since.. since the beginning. You still remember the first day you saw him under the oak tree. His hair tousled on his head in a flop of brown. He sat alone, plucking handfuls of green grass from the fresh earth. Even as a child you knew there was something about him that drew you in. Crossing the field you sat beside him in the dew covered grass. "Hello" you gleam, he glanced up almost surprised to new presence beside him. Something inside you clicked as you peered into the radiant blue of his eyes. "Hi" he gazed up at you through long lashes. "Amy?" A pang in your stomach bursts at the sound of your name . "Yea, you know me?" You question back already knowing the answer as a bright smile lite upon his lips. He kissed you once... Twice under that same oak tree. The recess's you two spent together were the essence of your childhood. You realize with a sigh that you've been so lost in your memories, you have no idea how much time has gone by. As soon as you open your heavy lids your meet with the same blues that took (still take) your breath away. "Louis right?" You voice mumbles without your permission. With the sound of the name his smile gleams across the pink of his lips."You were my first kiss. Elementary under that old oak tree" he chuckles and your shocked, momentarily stunned that he'd set aside a place for you in his memory. You take your lower lip between your teeth to keep from catching his contagious grin. "When are you off?" He asks leaning closer over the table. You shyly back away, his smile drops "I mean we need to catch up" you notice his cheeks splashed with scarlet. Lifting your wrist to check your watch you're shocked to see you've been off for over half and hour, losing track of time while reading the gossip in the magazine pages. "Now actually".
You walk beside each other, stride for stride, the warm sun gleaming on your shoulders. "You look different" he continues "taller". You giggle "we'll I grew up", "Yea we all did" he smiles glancing sideways at you. A gust of wind blew past, ruffling his brown hair. You tried not to stare, but found yourself examining the way he stood, with his feet apart and his wide shoulders thrust back, like a man with the world at his feet. He'd grown up, more than you'd pictured. There was no way you could be the woman who was his equal. You were still a girl. At least, that's how you felt. He caught you staring and you quickly glanced away. "Do you remember all those times under the oak tree?" He laughs "Yea... parts of it" you mumble and a silence forms around you at the memories. "Which parts?" He asks his smile faded. Your eyes widen "oh lots of things" and you wave your hand dismaying it all. "We lost track after elementary, both different schools" he comments with a sober tone. "I enjoyed it" you smiled to your shoes, "I did too" he whispers. There was something inviting about the way he stood, you felt lured into the trap of his eyes, and the racing heart which accompanied his gaze. He stood so close and the memories washed over you, every detail as it once was. Your pulse erupted as he leaned in. You emotions exploding out your chest as his lips pressed again yours. Warm and soft, different, better then you remembered. He pulled away slowly, and you opened your eyes, your head whirling. "I wanted to remind you of your first kiss" he grinned, cocky. "You did" you snickered. "Do you want to go somewhere?" He questioned, taking you by surprise. "Maybe the old oak tree?" He shines a smile that could only make your heart flutter. You throw your head back laughing as your hair tickles your neck "I'd love to".
