Round 2; Ready everybody?
The thing about best friends is that you're more than just someone to hang out with, when you become close friends with someone you basically sign a contract stating the following;
By agreeing to be friend with so and so you must now ;
*Confide all secrets to one another
*Be 100% honest all the time, no matter how painful it is.
* Support your friend no matter what.
*love your friend.
*listen
Basically be a therapist.
I mean it's not bad. I love it when people confide their problems to me. It makes me feel honored that they trust me and that they think I can help (even though my advice is mediocre the majority of the time).
Helping people get through their hard times honestly makes me really happy, I think that I might want to make a career out of it one day.
But then comes the dark side...
Sometimes I feel that my closest friends people who I know really like for who I am, really only talk to me because I'm their therapist. Though it is expected of me to listen and provide advice, i feel ignored and almost used because as soon as their done, they hang up. But that's not all of my friends, and even the ones who do act like that sometimes I know they really care about me, and sometimes we'll switch roles and they'll be my therapist ( seriously my BFF talked me out of smacking the s**t out of one guy). And to be honest sometimes even I act like that.
Another bad side to being the confider is that it genuinely hurts to see someone cry so much and feel like there is no hope. Ihave one friend who Kiks me constantly because she's going through a really hard time right now but I feel that's really taken a toll on our friendship. She used to be this bright, witty, person with an adorable smile who was confidant in who she was. But after what happened she got sad, depressed almost. She cries often and I have to be the one who picks up the pieces of her and it is so so hard. And I know that she'll bounce back like she always does. Not giving a f**k about what anyone thinks. But until that happens I have to be the one to stand by and watch her and makes sure she doesn't do anything that could ruin the process of healing. That's the worst part about being the friend therapist, is to see your loved ones upset and the only thing you can really do is say what's already been said a thousand times.
Ok that's pretty much what I need to get off my chest...
What about you guys? Any of you feel like a therapist sometimes? Is there anything I missed in the friend contract? And don't let this rant discourage you from contacting me, if you need help I'm here for you. You're not alone
And... Fin.
