The next day, I noticed Zander hadn't come to school, but after all my classes, I found a note in my locker. I opened it, and saw Zander's smooth hand-writing. Not sure if I should read it, or act like I didn't get anything from him, I stuck it in my folder and went home. My parents were both still at work, and my only sibling was at his College. I was all alone. I oepened my folder and grabbed the note that had been in my locker. Something is gonna happen... and I wanna see what it is...

I looked at Zander's hand-writing again. It was almost like he had printed it... but that couldn't be... it was in blue pen ink, not printer ink. Focus! I shook my head and read the note, half expecting what he put...

Astella,

I already know that you saw. You should have listened to me when I said to NOT get involved with me. Now... you are part of the Protected One List. I'm not sure what will happen, but you should be careful. If you think you are alone, you aren't. Watch out for yourself. I'll protect you, because it's my job. If you have questions, which I'm positive you do, call me or just come over, if possible, as soon as you can. My number and address are in the envelope. BE CAREFUL.

Zander Drake

I grabbed the other paper in the envelope. It's finally my chance to know more about Zander... I guess I'll go today. I picked up my cell phone and dialed his number in, saving it and then pressing "CALL." It rang once, and then he answered, "Hello," I heard Zander's voice on the other line. "...Hey..." I replied lamely. "I guess I was right about you having questions," he said, the smallest hint of amusement in his voice. "Yeah," I said, nodding like he was able to see me. "Okay. I'll be at your house in five minutes at the latest. Bye," he said and hung up. I thought was going to go... and how is he going to be here within five minutes?!

When he said five minutes the latest, he didn't lie. He was there in exactly five minutes. I was sitting on the porch, not really paying attention, when I saw a sleek black car pull up. Zander got out nd walked up to me. "Come one," he whispered, "They've got some people here." Confused and wondering whether I should go with him or not, I followed. I felt like I could trust him.

                                                                            ~

We pulled up to a really nice house on the far side of the neighborhood. Zander got out, and idicated that I should too. I got out, holding on to my  phone tightly. I felt nervous. My heart was pounding in my ears, but I kept steady. I'll be able to find something out no one else lnows about Zander, and I feeel very proud of it. He unlocked the door to the house and walked in, with me following directly behind him. The inside was just as nice as the outside.

The floors were smooth wood, there were some paintings hanging up, and I could see a piano at the very back. Zander led me up the stairs to a room, which I'm guessing was his, because it had his backpack and jacket in it. There was another person in there, but he didn't look familiar at all. Then, I heard his voice. I recognized it as the voice from the park. "Hey," the guy said, smiling brightly. He looked about the same age as Zander, but had light blonde hair and light blue eyes. His eyes were so... unusual. They weren't a regular blue... they were lighter than sky blue. "My name's Blake Keegan, nice to meet you," he said, and his smile became wider. I became even more nervous.

"Blake stop. You're making her uncomfortable... why're you even in here?" Zander asked. Blake grinned, "To see what Astella is like, of course." He stood up, and walked up to me. He sniffed, "You really do smell like a Normal." Zander sat in his chair, "She may be a Normal, or may be the Protected One. We can't tell. Besides, she's here because of her curiosity on what we said." Blake laughed a quick laugh, "Okay," he began, then looked at me, "Just don't forget... curiosity killed the cat." Then, he left. That all happened so fast... I can't keep track...

"Have a seat," Zander said, pointing to his bed. Now I slightly wish I'd stayed at home. "Uhh... sure..." I said quietly, and sat down. I kept wringing my hands in my lap. "You don't have to be so nervous," Zander said calmly, "You can trust us." I tried to sit still. Fortunately, I was actually be able to do so. Zander leaned forward in his chair, "So what exactly do you want to know?" he asked. I stared him in the eyes, my mind going blank for a moment. I asked the first question that came to mind, "What are you?"

Zander leaned back, "I'm what you might call a 'Guardian Angel,'" he said. I think he saw the confusion in my face, so he continued, "I'm a Protector. Guardian Angels are Protectors, but we prefer 'Protector,'" he said, "We're usually assigned a small group to one person for us to protect...but recently, there has been a stir. The Protected One has come among us." The Protected One...???
