Louis POV:
“So you’re really gonna go over to his house tomorrow?” Zayn says, leaning against the countertop. “Yes, Zayn, I really am gonna go over and meet Robin.” I reply, fiddling with the cash register. “You know what I mean.” He scowls.
“Oh look, Niall’s here.” I change the subject towards the blond who was just entering the restaurant. “When are you finally asking him out? He comes here every day after his lectures and now he’s spending his weekends here too.” Zayn blushes, well that was easy.
“You know how shy I can get. What if I just make a fool out of myself?” I smack his head. “That boy has a crush on you the size of Mount Everest. I bet if you were to give him a cookie and ask him to go donate blood as your first date, he’d be over the moon. And I’m sure you probably have something more romantic up your sleeve.”
“Actually, everything’s already ready. I just need to ask him out.” I smack him again. “Then do it, you idiot. I’m calling him over and you’re asking him out.”
“What? Are you mad? No, Lo-” I ignore his shouts and wave Niall over.
“Hey Niall, Zayn has some-” the restaurant door opens again and a mop of curly hair walks in. “Bloody hell! Cover for me, lads.” I hide behind the counter and scrunch my eyes shut. Please don’t let him have seen me, please please please.
“Where’s Louis?” A deep voice comes from somewhere above me. Someone up there really hates me.
“He’s not here.” Zayn replies snarkily. You go, Zayn. Don’t let the evil demon get me.
“He works with you, I know that. He wasn’t home too. So, logically, he should be here somewhere.” Smartass! He’s not gonna give up, is he?
“He’s out on his break. What does it matter to you anyways?” Yeah, what does it matter to you? That stung actually, me not mattering to Harry. “He’s right, babe. You can meet Louis later.” Ugh, Did I mention I hate American accents? How’d she get an American accent in the UK anyway?
“So what would you like to eat?” While they order, I’m just sitting here looking at the floor. It’s pretty dirty down here. I wonder when we last scrubbed the floor. “Come, I’ll show you to your table.” Niall says.
FINALLY! “But you don’t work here? Where’s your uniform?” Taylor and her nosy ways…JUST LET HIM SHOW YOU THE GODDAMN TABLE AND LEAVE ALREADY!! “Oh I just got here. I’ll change after I show you to your table, ma’am. This way, please.” Nice save, Ni. You’re the man.
“They’re gone.” Zayn hisses at me. “But you’ll either have to stay down there or hide in the men’s toilet coz they’re sitting right in front of the kitchen.” Toilet it is. “Thanks for this, Zayn.” “Anytime, mate. Now go and mind, he doesn’t see you.”
I walk to the toilets briskly, keeping my head down to stay inconspicuous. Turning the corner for the toilets, I lean against the wall, holding my chest, trying to calm my frenzied heart. It’s pounding so hard; I’m surprised it hasn’t jumped out of my chest yet.
“Hiding from someone?” I jump at the sound of his voice before straightening up. Where in the world did he come from? “Harry? What?”
“Who are you hiding from? Is it me?” He repeats, looking slightly worried at the thought of me avoiding him. No way, what am I even thinking? Overactive imagination, I tell you.
“No, Harry. Why would you think that?” Cool, Louis, be cool. Cool as a cucumber.
“How do you explain hiding behind that counter, then?”
