You Can't Change Me
Prologue & Chapter One: You're Mine
Prologue
Inner strength pulls you through, but does the strength really come from you?
The sixth graders were cheering in the background. I was panting but I didn't let them see it. They were all crowded around us like swarms of bee's attracted to a honey comb. All forming a cocoon around the two of us. Cheers and whistling, people talking and betting on who would win resonated our concrete arena. My heart was hammering in my head, veins pumping with adrenaline as I stood in position like I saw all those Jiu Jitsu fighters do when I would peak through their gym windows to watch after school. The only noise filling my head was the ragged breathing I produced as I was gradually steadying it. The other kids I tried to successfully block out of my senses, letting them stay in the background like the pestering bee's they really were.
My thick navy hoodie was baggy on my body as I circled our arena, eying my opponent with rage and utter distaste. The Addida's sweats my foster mother gave me let me move with ease as my black dirty high tops put a bounce in my step. My dark brown hair that changed tints during the seasons, hung in waves around my face. The outgrown bangs brushed over my forehead, sweat covering it. I held my hands out bent by my body. I pierced my opponent - who started this fight in the first place - with my dark brown eyes, curled eyelashes that framed my glowering dark brown stare.
I took a step forward, mimicking him when he took a step back. I had him in a good spot, going over the move in m head I had barely picked up from watching the Jiu Jitsu people train. I had never tried it once in real life, but today was a better day than ever to test it out. I shot my hand out like a samurai sword under his arm pit and snaking I around his waist. I hugged his body to me, noticing the confused expression on his face. I mentally rolled my eyes, of course he didn't know what I was doing. I clamped my hands together in a steel grip. I pinched my legs against his, and then sucked him to me. I took the last necessary step and brought up the leg behind his, making him fall to the floor. The crowd I tried so hard to ignore went crashing through my weak barrier.
I didn't hesitate as his lying position on the floor was what I needed. I began to bash his face with my fist rhythmically. A crying moan escaped his lips. My face was flushed with anger, teeth gritted in revenge that was soulfully mine to obtain. I kneed him in the stomach several times, and let him take an impact from my foot to his lower area. He screamed at that part, clutching his family jewels in pain. An agonizing expression crossed his features as he winced and closed his eyes shut. His lips were in a grim line and I slapped him.
I was then being dragged away by my best friend Pat. He parted through the sea of the crowd, and clutched my forearm with his hand. Pulling me away from the person who deserved that beating. I thrashed in his grip. I looked up into his ocean blue eyes and relaxed instantly once I noticed it was him. He pushed through the crowd, getting me to sit on a bench by the playground. I tried to calm myself down, but like always my stupid anger issues got the better of me.
The teacher came and yelled at the kids around her to calm down and stop yelling. Obviously that didn't work as she balled her fists by her sides and blew an ear piercing whistle. That immediately caught everyone's attention. I heard a few words fly from her mouth but I wasn't able to register them because of the distance put between me and the swarm of people. The crowd grew eerily silent, and then all fingers were pointed at the kid on the ground and me on the bench with Pat. My heart stilled for a second as it dawned on me that I had to pay for my consequences whether I liked it or not.
