You Can't Change Me

Chapter Nine

-Blades A Girls Best Friend-

You want them when they don't want you

Soon as they do feelings change

It's not a contest and I ain't on no conquest for no mate

I wasn't looking but I stumbled onto you must've been fate

But so much is at stake what the fuck does it take

Super Bound by Eminem

After we stopped at headquarters we were given two cars and a third one would be waiting for us as a getaway. Not that I would need one. I hated getaway cars; too many things could go wrong. I didn't want to risk it because I wanted to do this right. They guys had dropped me off a few blocks away near the back, doing a U-turn and then heading back for the ambush at the front of the house by inconspicuously stopping the car a few streets from the building and then walking the rest of the way there.

I still couldn't believe we were in Miami. I was in the type of area that reminded me all too much of my child hood. The wind whipped at me as I began to climb the stairs on the side of a building. Reaching the top a shiver racked my body as I had a perfect view of the entire city. From afar I could make out a girl with long dirty blonde hair and a bony body. I could see the slightest of muscle on her arms, but her clothes drowned her body as she walked down the street with a bag in her hand. It was a horrible thing for kids to have to grow up so fast in such a rural area, but we all learned sooner or later that life fucked us all.

I got a head start and jumped, shooting off the edge with one last run. I was airborne, arms flown back and my legs itching for the perfect moment when I'd have to crouch my body back into position when I landed. With a silent thud I had made it to the second roof top with all of my gear on. For some reason I couldn't take my eyes off of the little girl that looked around nine or ten. I stood up, peering down as she walked down an alley one building over. I followed my gut feelings and landed on the building she had walked by. I held my breath when I saw a bunch of boys only a year or two older than her come out of the shadows. I could feel how frightened she was and how unknown this situation was to her. I couldn't stop the flashbacks though that I had tried so hard to push back.

I brought my hoodie up over my head that I had to steal from the old woman that always had her cart near the back of the train tracks. I had run away again from my foster home, and I knew they would end up finding me again, but for now I would hide as much as I could. Turning the corner I regretted it the instant I saw some boys a little bit older than me submerge from the alley's back. I held my breath, taking in all three of them and one girl. She stood in the back with arms crossed over her bony body, eyes silently telling me they were doing me a favor.

I looked behind me and around the whole alley as they closed in. I was alone and vulnerable. Frightened to say the least.

The head boy of the pack spoke up. He laughed. "Didn't mommy every tell you to never walk alone in the dark?"
