(Dan's POV)

I just stared wide eyed at the boy in front of me. Thoughts were going crazy in my head. 'Phil's gay? Why didn't he tell me that? That seems like pretty important information to share with your new friend. But he apparently doesn't have any friends because of that, maybe he was just scared I wouldn't want to be his friend anymore if I knew.'

"You're welcome." Charlie said to me with a smile. I glared at him.

"You're welcome?! Who gives a flying fuck if he's gay?" I asked my voice raising. Charlie just shrugged.

"It's unnatural."

I stared at him in disbelief. 'What the hell is wrong with this school if they shun a boy just because he likes boys and not girls? Phil is just like the rest of us. He just wants to love and be loved.'

"It is completely natural Charlie! What's unnatural is the amount of effort you guys put into ignoring him! All because he likes boys? What the fuck is wrong with you people?"

"Dude," Charlie said while leaning forward towards the coffee table. He grabbed my drink and shoved it towards me, "you seriously need alcohol in your system. I'm just warning you because sooner or later he's going to end up falling for you. And I'm sure you don't want that now do you?"

I narrowed my eyes but didn't say anything.

Charlie got up and patted my shoulder, "I'm glad you came Dan, stay a while, get comfortable, make new friends, and have fun. Welcome to London." As soon as he walked out of the room I shot out of the couch and headed for the door.

...

"Daniel!!" I heard my mother call from the kitchen. I had just opened the door from walking back from Charlie's dumb party. She rushed out and hugged me as soon as she laid eyes on me. "Where in the world have you been young man?"

I was confused. I pulled myself out of my mother's death grip on me. "Mum, I told you I was going to a friend's house. And I was only gone for like twenty minutes."

She frowned at me, "Yes, but you ran out of the door without telling me who this friend was, where they lived, or how long you would be gone!"

I scoffed, 'mothers'. "Well, I'm back now, am I not?"

My mother didn't say anything and it seemed like she was going to drop the subject when she suddenly looked at me weird.

"Daniel James Howell...don't tell me that's.."

"What?" What was she on about now?

Before I knew it my mom was leaning close to my face and took a deep breath. I leaned back out of shock. "Mum! What the heck was that?"

A scowl found it's way on her face. "I smell alcohol on your breath!" she yelled. My heart dropped, 'no, it's not like that.'

I put my hands up and shook my head. "No, mum, you don't understand. It was only one sip I swear!"

"You're only sixteen Daniel! What you did was illegal and for what? To impress some people you met today? We moved here yesterday! And today you are drinking behind my back! I'm so disappointed in you." She was well angry by now and her face was turning red. I didn't say anything. Why bother? She wouldn't believe me, anything I'd say it would just enter one ear and go out the other. Any and all logic is out her window right now. All she knows is that I drank alcohol, she's not even thinking that I was only gone long enough for me to go in, take one drink, and leave. Or the fact that I'm not drunk or tipsy or anything.

I rolled my eyes and sighed. There was nothing I could do.

"Mum.."

"No! I can't believe you right now! You are going to go up to your room and you will not come out until tomorrow morning. You will not be going to any more friends houses until I believe you have learned your lesson about this." She then just stood there and pointed towards my room and glared at me.
