Wednesday, Raining

Recently, there some rumours that glided through the school halls, about school couples and haters. Why do I know? Well, one rumour was pointing at Gwen and I. Honestly, Gwen and I don't consider dating each other. But once in a while, we do have our romantic moments. Either Gwen makes the move or I do.

More importantly, prom is approaching us. Soon, every guy will get a date and prom will be filled with couples. I don't want to be left out. Adam already got a date for fortnight's prom, Jessica is going to go with Adam, she's the organizer of the art club. Leon is going with Grace, a doctor's daughter. Johnathan is going with Samantha, award winning student writer.

They all have a date and I was shot at today, at lunch. "You know, Gwen is kinda your only viable option for now," said Johnathan. "I agree, Gwen is your best shot for a date, if you don't want to go solo for prom," said Leon. "Take your chances, James, you need a date," said Adam. "Plus, she's hot and you have a crush on her, perfect timing to confess."

After all their talk of me asking Gwen out to prom, I just stared blankly at them. "I'm embarrassed to ask," I said. "Plus, I don't want to confess so early, its only been 3 months since I met her." "When did you have a romantic moment with her," asked Johnathan. "The most recent moment." " 1 week ago, when she came over to my house and she was lying on top of me, cuddling in my arms, taking a nap." I replied.

My friends just stared at me and gently shook their heads. "What," I asked. "Doesn't mean that we have romantic moments means that we are dating." "Do you love her," asked Adam. "That's the hundred dollar question, yes or no?"

That question fell on me like a million bricks. I was stunned. Do I really love her? Do I have everything I takes to keep her happy and protect her? Do I know her future well enough to align my future with her's? I took a minute or two to think. I answered Adam's question in a serious manner. Explained my concept and finally gave an answer. "Yes, I do love her."

School was normal as usual. It ended at 5.00pm and we all walked home. It was raining cats and dogs when we wanted to leave, so I took out my umbrella and prepared to leave. Suddenly, it hit me that Gwen does not have an umbrella. I waited for her. She came and greeted me. She wanted to run home, but I stoped her from doing so. I don't want her to fall sick. So we shared an umbrella to go home.

The rain was pouring on us like a giant waterfall, the umbrella was not really big enough for two. So, I let my shoulder shower in the rain and gave more space to Gwen. We walked an talked. Soon, she realized that she was 3 inches away from the rain and my shoulder was wet and still getting wet. She stared at me as I walked, she had a thought and suddenly, she just knocked my right shoulder. She leaned onto me which meant that we both fit perfectly under one umbrella.

When she knocked into me, I nearly fell. But after I realized what she was doing, I blushed really hard. My vision blurred and I couldn't find the words when we had a conversation. I was making our time, one word, awkward.

"A gentleman, like you, should not get yourself wet in the rain," said Gwen. "We can share the umbrella, its not really big, but we can both not get wet if we minimize the space we need." She spoke as her head rest on my shoulder. I could see some classmates teasing us as we walked on the side walk. The rain seems to have diminished and the sun began revealing itself.

I closed my umbrella as we approached Gwen's doorstep. I started blankly at her again, as I pounder a million questions to myself, about whether I should ask her out to prom with me. I started panicking as she walked away from me. Suddenly, she spoke.

"You know, prom is actually a fortnight away from today, and my pals and I were planning to go," said Gwen. "They all have dates and I was the only one without one, so I was actually thinking...." She drifted into mumbles as I see her getting softer and softer as she spoke. I couldn't hear her, so I asked her to repeat herself. "Never mind, it's just some stupid idea of mine," said Gwen, as she started opening her house door. I interrupted her, "Would you like to come to prom with me," I asked. I didn't know what ibwas thinking back then, but something hit me, saying that that was my only shot of asking her out.

There was a moment of silence, with Gwen's house door open. She opened her mouth to respond, as I anticipating what she might say. "Sure," said Gwen. "I'd love to." I just smiled and told her to meet me at the plaza mall this weekend to get her prom dress and my suit, as my old suit was aging. I left with happy thoughts.

Prom. What a wonderful celebration of youth.
