The sun was rising. It was a new day, with new possibilities, and new opportunities. Demi blinked open her eyes, still getting used to the fact that she was back in her apartment, back in their apartment, back at home with her lover. The tour was over, the routine was over. She no longer had to worry about being too tired to do anything with him. She didn't have to worry about falling asleep during movie dates or forcing herself to listen when he was gushing about the new TV show that he had started. All she had to worry about was recording her album, and being the best girlfriend possible. All she had to worry about was making sure that she treated him like the king he was, just like he treated her just like a queen.
She turned onto her side and watched him while he slept. She never woke up early enough to just be able to sit there and watch him in that peaceful state like he sometimes did to her. She watched the way his bare chest rose and fell. She watched the way his mouth opened and closed as small snores escaped while they had the chance, and the way his nose scrunched up at something terrible happening in his dream. But then she watched the way the corners of his lips slightly lifted up. His dream was good again. He curled up some more and his left arm instinctively reached out for her, pulling her closer, wrapping their bodies together under the covers in a shared warmth as he stayed asleep, and she just continued to watch him.
She used her free hand to gently caress his face, her fingertips moving across his smooth yet slightly rough skin. They danced across his eyebrows and trailed down his nose. She poked him at the tip of his nose with her index finger, just like he did to her, and giggled when his nose scrunched up again. The tips of her fingers glided across the moustache that she had begged him to shave off, whining that she didn't want to kiss a carpet and then going on a kissing strike for a whopping time of 46 seconds before he swooped down and stated that she wouldn't be able to survive without his carpet kisses.
"What would I do without your smart mouth? Drawing me in and you kicking me out," she softly sang, letting out a breathy chuckle at the memory before she cupped his cheeks in her hands and pulled herself closer to him, as close as she could possibly get without waking him up.
"You got my head spinning, and no kidding, I can't pin you down," she smiled at the memory of when she first moved into the apartment, and he had come to help her unpack. Unpacking had turned into play wrestling in every single room in the house, and no matter what she always ended up underneath him. But he would smile down at her and look at her with so much love in his eyes that she would only sigh and lean up to place a kiss on the side of his lips.
"What's going on in that beautiful mind?" she whispered, taking in his calm facial expression. She sometimes asked him if he ever dreamed about her and them and the future, but he would never tell her unless he really wanted to. But she was good at figuring him out, and the way that he eyed the engagement rings every time that they would go to Cartier so that she could replace a broken love bracelet, she knew that he did at least think about it.
"And I'm on your magical mystery ride. You got my head spinning, I'm so dizzy, but I'll be alright," she nodded her head and closed her eyes, sliding down to rest her head on his chest. She intertwined their fingers and softly hummed as his heartbeat met with her voice and the lyrics, and she composed her own personal song to him in their bedroom, at six am in the morning on that beautiful California day.
"My head's underwater but I'm breathing fine. You're crazy and I'm out of my mind," everyone knew about her problems, but not everyone knew about his. He was more private and more resigned than he used to be. Just like he could calm her down during a panic attack or an anxiety attack or a manic episode, she knew how to calm him down as well when doubt overtook his mind and all he could focus on were the negatives, and when the future seemed like nothing but a black hole for him.
