A wave of frigid air hit me as I got out of the car and I shivered, zipping up my coat a bit more.
We were standing in yet another parking lot. I looked up to the building, frowning when I saw the state it was in.

"Are you sure this is a good idea? This doesn't seem like the most comfortable place to spend the night"
I asked Avi, who didn't look too sure either.

"Well we're gonna have to. I'm not driving in the dark and they're predicting bad weather so that's a double no."

I sighed and turned back, eyeing the building warily. It seemed like the perfect place for criminals or drug dealers and I didn't like it one bit.

"Come on, we'll be fine." Avi started walking and I grabbed my suitcase and caught up with him quickly, walking just a tiny bit too close to him. My hand brushed against his and I shivered again, but this time not from the cold. I put my hand in my pocket quickly, putting a bit more space between us.

We got inside and I looked around the lobby sceptically. It looked horrible: there were stains in the carpet, the paint on the walls was flaking of and everything smelled like cigarette smoke.

Avi didn't hesitate and walked up to the counter and I stood behind him, nervously looking over my shoulder every few seconds. The guy behind the counter looked a little nervous too, despite the fact that he was sitting safely behind glass.

"I'd like to book a room for two please, with separate beds."

The guy typed something in his computer and frowned.

"I'm afraid there aren't any rooms with separate beds available."

"Just one room then,"

Wait- what the fuck was he up to?

"Sure," the receptionist answered.

Avi paid and received the room keys.
"Have a good night,"

Avi hummed in response and grabbed my elbow to lead me towards the elevator.

"Why one room?" I asked him, curious what his answer would be.

"Because I don't trust this place one bit and knowing you, you'd probably call me at two in the morning, screaming because you thought there was a cockroach in your room or something." He answered cheerfully. That bitch.

"Hey! I would never do that!" I hit his arm playfully.

"Sure, babe" He joked, referencing my little 'joke' from earlier.

"I'm so over you right now,"

We stepped into the elevator and he punched the button and the doors almost closed until a hand appeared between them, holding them open.

A very obviously drunk guy joined us in the elevator, and with him an awful stench of booze and sweat. I pulled up my nose and stepped a little closer to Avi, away from the guy who was leaning against the wall opposite of us.

His bloodshot eyes took in first Avi, and then me. He smiled lazily and took another swig of the bottle in his hand that I only then noticed.

Please, let him stay silent, I'm not in the mood for-

"So," He said, drawling out the 'o', "What are you guys doing here? Spending some time away from the girlfriend?" He said, looking at Avi.

I tried to contain my smile at that. Avi looked mildly horrified at the guy's words, it was priceless.

"No, just... on our way to family," he answered before the guy could make any more assumptions.

Luckily, the doors opened at that moment and the guy got out, looking over his shoulder.

"Don't worry, your secret is safe with me!"

Avi punched the button again to close the door and soon we were alone again, standing awkwardly. The silence after what'd just happened was almost comical and I snickered, covering my mouth with my hand.

"So, Avi, are you having fun 'spending time away from the girlfriend'?"

"Shut up," he answered.

We got to our floor and searched for our room, which was pretty difficult since the number on the key was almost illegible.

After a couple minutes of trying to figure out where our room was we finally found it.

Avi opened the door and I sighed in relief when I saw that the room wasn't as horrible as the lobby. It still smelled kind of weird but at least the carpet didn't have gross stains in it. I put down my suitcase on one side of the bad and sat down on it, testing it out. It wasn't great, but it would have to do.

Avi had shrugged off his jacket already and opened his suitcase to find his phone charger.

This was going to be a fun night. I checked and the hotel had free WiFi, so we weren't completely cut off.

We sat in comfortable silence for a couple of hours, me scrolling through Tumblr and him doing whatever it was that he was doing on his phone.

I was glad when it was finally time to sleep. It's weird how one can feel so tired after sitting in a car all day.

We both got in bed and at first we were both lying on our own side of the bed, but I got cold quickly and scooted over to him to snuggle into him, not caring what he thought of it.
He put his arm under my head and I put my head down on his chest, sighing contently at his warmth.

I smiled, thinking about everything that had happened today. From lonely and tipsy on my couch to awkwardly sitting in a car to snuggling into Avi in a motel room in the mountains. Life sure was weird.

Hi guys!
I might double-update today but I'm not sure if I'll get it finished in time. I'm gonna try.
If you notice bad spelling or something in any of my chapters, feel free to point it out. I try to proofread but sometimes I just look over it.
