I walk into school and I'm greeted by my best friend Zoe she and I walk to our first class together. I sit in my desk watching the clock sighing. Once class finally finishes I head to my locker and my crush is at his which is right next to mine. I walk over fixing my hair and smiling. " Hey " he says looking at me. " Oh hey " I say with a huge smile, right before he opens his mouth to say something Kaya comes up behind him and taps him on the shoulder. I look away, Kaya is the most popular girl in school and she can get any guy she wants, I figure all hope is lost for me and Alex ever being a thing. They start taking and end up walking away completely forgetting I exist.
At lunch I put my earbuds in and turn the volume up all the way, drowning out my thoughts. I don't feel like eating so I just sit alone outside and watch the seniors play basketball. I start to zone out thinking about Alex when Zoe comes and sits next to me. I take out my earbuds " hey girl, I didn't see you at lunch?" She says. " oh yeah um I just wasn't hungry" I look away so she can't read me, like she always does. She glares at me and I can feel her eyes burning a hole in my head. " Okay okay, Alex ran off with kaya today and I'm just kind of upset" I look at her a bit ashamed. She rolls her eyes and gives me a hug. " I have to get to class but we'll talk later okay?" " okay" I say. She leaves and I get up and walk to class thinking to myself " just make it through the rest of the day."
