Inky blackness wrapped a pale body with a motherly embrace. It caressed her hard stomach, her thin arms and muscly legs. Black hands took a slackened face in its gentle grip, stroking the high cheekbones and slim jaw. The hands felt calloused as the fingertips skimmed closed eyelids.

Where is this place? A tiny mind thought. Time seemed to be nonexistent in that void. How did I get here? Why does it feel like my insides are melting?

A pair of grey eyes opened, shining through the blackness that threatened to snuff its light out. It looked as though the pupils extended outwards and turned a lighter hue as it went. They spotted dark brown tendrils snaking in the liquid next to its face.

Why doesn't that look like mine? A frown appeared above the grey eyes. What is it supposed to look like, then?

A pair of black hands came up from behind to slowly cover the grey eyes. A smile played at the corners of a mouth, although it was unbeknownst to the bearer that it was bloody.

I guess I don't have to know.

"DAMMIT! Stay with me, Ayano!" Eren yelled in frustration, spotting blood bubbling up from the girl's pale mouth. He rummaged through his medicine bag, but nothing turned up that would be of use.

Hanji, who arranged Eren's medicine bag, never would have imagined that the titan's stomach could emit deadly toxins. Toxins that slowly killed the victim from the inside.

And that victim was Ayano.

Eren glanced at the titan whose neck was sliced deep enough to reach its gullet. It laid facedown on the ground, its mouth open in mid scream. The blond titan bolted into the woods when it saw that Eren retrieved Ayano. The boy had thought that the blond titan cared for Ayano's safety, but it seemed that it only cared for its own.

"Shit!" Eren cursed after his search for something to treat Ayano with proved to be fruitless. He picked up the unconscious girl and placed her in front of him as he saddled his horse. He prodded his horse forward and Ayano's mare soon joined next to him. All of her constant pulling and biting freed her from the rope's restraint.

Eren pulled the girl down and carried her bridal style into the wooden house. Ayano shivered harshly and coughed, spraying blood on Eren's face. The frantic boy looked around. A smoking candle rested on a wooden table to his left, a kitchen set in front of him let the dim moonlight through a window.

After some exploring, Eren found a bed fit enough to place Ayano on. He touched his hand to her forehead and winced.

"She's burning up." He said, although no one was around. He unloaded his medicine bag from his horse, who was standing next to Ayano's mare. He packed its contents out onto the dining table, lighting the snuffed out candle. He carried a wet towel he found in the sink and some antibiotics to Ayano.

Her ragged breathing made Eren's tanned hands work faster. The towel was placed on her heated forehead and a needle plunged into her arm. Eren, although he knew that it would be worthless, went to search through his medical supplies again. He had cures for food poisoning, snake bites and scorpion stings. But none for a toxin that their scientists didn't even know of.

Eren's fist slammed against the table, while his other shakily ran through his brown hair. He walked to Ayano's bed again, staring at her slackened face, which was decorated with tiny spheres of sweat. His fists clenched.

"I won't let humanity's chance die." Eren took one of Ayano's unresponsive and pale hands in his own, his green eyes alight. "I won't let you die, Ayano."
