The first to be bitten

Chapter 6

I woke with a jolt. Sweat was covering my body and I was breathing heavily. I slid out of the bed and the dream replayed in my head.

'I was running through the trees but I had four legs instead of two. I was panting for breath as I chased after a deer. My speed was amazingly fast, I could see everything. I pounced towards the deep and landed on its back tackling it to the ground. My teeth sunk into the flesh of its neck and it stopped moving.'

Shaking my head at the disturbing dream I slid out of the bed I was in and fell to the floor with a straggled scream. I fell onto my knees and continued to breath heavily. I was hunched over with my hair falling in front of my face. I gripped at my stomach as pain flared. I clenched my jaw shut so I wouldn't scream. Pain flared from my left shoulder from where the wolf bit me. I bit the inside of my cheek and blood spilled onto my tongue. The thick copper taste making me gag. My back arched up and a bone snapped.

I could no longer contain my screams as another bone snapped. Heat flared on my lower back as Derek placed a hand.

"Shadow! What's happining!" Derek's voice dripped with panic. He moved the hair from my face and gasped. He shifted back and stared at me.

"W-what?" I whimpered out.

"Your eyes." His voice barely a whisper.

Panic shot through me as another bone snapped.

"I need to get out side!" I screamed. "Tress... I need to be around trees." I was panting hard. My lungs felt like they where going to explode, my chest felt like it was expanding.

Derek gave me an unsure look but when he heard another bone snap he scooped me up in his arms. I buried my face into his chest and moaned. I did my best not to scream, but my blood felt like it was on fire! My heart was beating fast and hard.

"P-please hurry." I moaned.

Derek ran out the hospital doors ignoring the nurses pleads. He ran to the forest and went to a clearing in the middle of it. No one was in sight and no one could hear me scream. My body convulsed and I let out a strangled scream.

My body hurt everywhere. Something else snapped making my eyes water. I looked up at Derek, panic clear on his face.

"I-I don't know what to do!" He cried out. He made a move to come towards me but I held up a hand.

"No don't! I ne-" a scream interrupted my sentence and my back bent backwards. My spin snapped and I screamed. But it was no longer human. It sounded like a howl, a wolfs howl.

My gums ached as new teeth pushed out my old ones, my nose became a snout and hair erupted over my body. After a final snap everything stopped.

I was panting hard and my body hurt. I turned my large head over to look at Derek.

His face was sickly pail as he stared at me. Fear flashed through his eyes, he backed himself up against a tree and whimpered.

Derek's the star football player, he stands 6'6 in the air with broad shoulders and muscles bulging under his shirt. Derek Evans does not get scared easily.

I went to ask what's wrong but my vocal cords didn't work. Instead I whimpered like a dog. My eyes met Derek's and my heart shattered.

He was scared of me. He didn't want to be anywhere near me. I bowed my head and took a step forward, stumbling a little. I felt awkward and huge, nothing felt right to me anymore. Derek fumbled with his pocket but soon retrieved his phone. He held the black screen up to my face and my eyes widened.

In the reflection I didn't see the girl with long brown hair. I saw a wolf.
