** I would like to dedicate this chapter to 'LetMyTearFall' :D thank you so much for the fantastic cover <3!!!**

Butterflies continued to fly through my stomach as the lingering heat of Derek slowly washed off me.

Don't be easy. Make him work to have you. A small knock sounded at my door.

"Come in!" a small blonde head poked through the little crack of my door.

"Hey kiddo! c'mon in" Skipper, my youngest sister came bounding into my room and did a belly flop onto my bed.

"Hey Shadow! how was your day?" Skips smile brightened up my room.

"It was good. Yours?"

"It was good. Oh someone called for you."

I raised my eyebrow in question "Yeah? Who?"

"Ummm. I think he said his name was Josh." With that she gave me a quick hug and bolted out of my room.

I froze. Josh. As in alpha Josh? I bolted out of my bed and ran down the stairs. Almost running into my dad.

"Whoa there champ. What's the rush?"

Grabbing the phone off the charger I began dialling the pack house.

"Josh called."

"Who?"

"My alpha"

I turned my back to him and waited as the phone rang.

"Hello?" the muffled voice that sounded at the other end was Cam.

"Cam. It's Shadow."

The sharp intake of his breath made my stomach clench.

My voice filled with worry "what happened?"

"There was an attack last night. Most of our hunters have been injured." his voice was strained as he told me last nights events. A pack of mutts came into the territory demanding land and pack status. They attacked first and in result three pack members were murdered plus half a dozen were injured.

"What can I do?"

"You're the best tracker in the pack. We couldn't pick up a trail." He paused. "Shadow we need you to come back."

My mouth opened and close like a fish out of water. I just got back, I couldn't leave now. I caught my dads gaze and he took a step towards me.

"But Cam. You're the beta. shouldn't you be able to take of this. I just got home." voice was just below a whisper but my dad still heard it. He looked at me and mouthed 'what's wrong?' I waved a dismissive hand in his direction and walked away.

"Yes I could, but it'd be a lot easier if you tracked."

I sighed heavily. "Do you have an idea who the mutts are?"

"Yeah."

I waited for him to continue but it was such a long pause I thought the phone lines got disconnected. "It's the mutts who killed Josh's family".

I knew that mutts had killed members of his pack before but I only heard rumours about mutts killing off his family. They say he was 16, not yet old enough to take over the pack but old enough to endure his first shift. His uncle had taken over the pack until Josh was old enough to take position of alpha.

I bit my lip "I'll see what I can do. Keep me updated." I hung up the phone and stood in place for a long time. This is my job I can't go back just yet.

"Is everything ok?" my dads deep voice startled me out of my trance.

"No. Their was an attack."

My fathers eyes widened "Is everyone okay?"

"A few are dead, many injured. They want me to come back and help track."

"And what did you say?" I caught a hint of fear in his voice.

"I don't know yet. It shouldn't be my job. Josh is alpha, Cam is his beta and I'm just a hunter. If things get really bad then I might go" with that I left and returned to my room.

Grabbing my cellphone off the bedside table I had revived a text from non other than Derek. A smile formed on my face and I replied. We talked for hours on end. Catching up on the things we missed. It felt good talking to him again. I missed him as a friend and I could help think that we made perfect soul mates. As we talked the nagging feeling that something bad was about to happen kept me pacing my room. I walked to my window and looked out but nothing was out of place. A few neighbourhood kids played outside with their parents close by. The trees looked undisturbed. I went to turn my back but a dark shadow caught my eye. Frowning I leaned closer to my window. If I looked hard enough I could see a pair of yellow eyes hidden in the bushes. I quickly texted Derek telling him I had to go and I ran down stairs.

"Going out dad!"

I bolted out of my house and dashed across the street into the trees. My breathing was heavy as I slowed my pace. I caught a faint scent but it was old and hard to track in human form. Without hesitating I started to strip. Folding my clothes into a neat pile and tucking them under a tree I shifted. The shift came quick and painless. All my senses sharpened. Everything became more clear and detailed. The scent I had found earlier became more sharp and I began to follow it.

The trail went on for a few miles. I didn't recognize the scent, but it made my stomach clench. The trail ended at an abandoned house in the middle if the forest. I proceeded with caution, my ears flicked back and forth listening for any unusual sounds but I heard nothing. As I entered the house the floor boards creaked with protest. The scent was all over this place and they were here recently. I tracked the whole house and nothing seemed out of the usual. So what on earth was someone doing here? just then I heard a loud crash. I nearly jumped out of my skin! it sounded like it came from behind me but when it sounded again it was to my left. I let out a warning growl and ran out if the house and waited in defensive position.

Nothing.

Nothing happened. Few minutes passed and still nothing. I lifted my muzzle and I couldn't catch a new scent. Did I just imagine that?

"Hey!" The males voice came from my left and I turned my head in that direction to see a massive looking guy! He was built like he was a marine. I lowered my head and let out a growl. He laughed.

"Oh shut up. I know what you are."

My growl grew deeper I flashed my canines and snapped my jaws.

"Shadow just change back."

My entire body stiffened when he said my name. I have no idea who this man was, but he knew me in my wolf form and knew my name.

I snorted and took a step back. Shaking my head telling him I wouldn't do it.

"Fine. I understand you don't know me and don't trust me I got that."

I grunted in response. My guy was telling me to attack and rip into his neck. The trees rustled and a breeze came in my direction and I caught his scent. He was a werewolf. No a mutt.

I lowered my head and growled deeply. One of those growls that said if you don't leave now I WILL rip of your head.

This mans chuckle was deep "Yeah alright I guess I deserve that, I am the man who killed your alphas family after all"
