The first to be bitten

Chapter 12

When my books hit the floor the sound of impact had the two jump away. My wolf stirred uneasily. She knew my mate was with someone other than us and at that moment she wanted to rip her throat out. I started to back away slowly, tears filling my eyes.

"Shadow?" Derek's voice was shaking and could see the confusion in his eyes. He took a step towards me and I scuttled away.

"Shadow! Oh my god!!" Amanda's voice was shill to my ears and it made m wolf growl. My gaze shifted to her and I saw her flinch back. I grabbed my books off the floor and ran. I could hear Derek calling my name but I refused to look back. After a few more tuns I found my class and silently walked in.

"Your late" my teachers voice was ruff.

"I'm sorry I couldn't find it." I kept my head down and made my way to the seat at the back near the window.

"Don't do it again." I gazed up and saw my teacher for the first time and I gasped.

A few heads turned in my direction but I ignored them and held the gaze of my teacher. Power coursed threw him in massive waves making my wolf cower slightly. His gazed hardened and he turned and went back to teaching the class. A few moments later a knock sounded at the door and the teacher paused.

"Amanda." his voice was hard

"Your late. Again."

My head snapped up and groaned inwardly. Just as my teacher said. Amber was standing in the doorway with her head bent slightly and her cheeks were flushed pink.

"Go in and sit"

She nodded and dashed to her seat. She caught my eyes and gave me a broad smile and waved. I bit the inside of my cheek and wiggled my fingers stiffly.

Great! I find my mate sucking faces with my best friend that is in my class and I just find out that my teacher is an alpha male. Could my day get any worse? As I reading my mind the teacher spoke,

"Shadow after class could you stay behind."

I nodded my head stiffly and gazed out the window. Beyond the window was a small forest with birds flying in and out of the trees. Freedom. They have it and I'm stuck in school. Whys did I come back to this? I had it all with the pack I was with.

'But our mate' my wolfs voice floated in my head. I sighed, 'yea and he just happens to be sucking face with my best friend' I thought back.

Class dragged on an Amanda kept looking back at me and giving me small smiles. I swear it's like she taunting me. Amanda knew Derek and I have been friends since kindergarten but how could she know he was my mate. But he does. He knows what a mate is to a wolf. So how could he possibly be with my best friend? A distraction maybe?

The sharp ring of the bell ha me lurching out of my thoughts. Classmates rustled around gathering their papers and whispering to their friends. I stayed seated and waited for everyone to leave. Amanda of corse lingered at her spot.

"Amanda if you don't need anything could you please leave. I need to talk to Shadow."

She glanced back at me and then towards the alpha. She gave a short nod and walked out.

"Shadow."

"Yes. As you know that's me." I replied.

"Glad to see your face around the school again" a small smile formed on his face. I have him a stif nod.

"Mmhm. What would you like alpha?"

His eyes widened "Alpha?"

"Don't play dumb with me, I know what you are and you know exactly what I am. So what is it that you'd like?" My voice casual.
