“I beg to differ,” I stated as she got off of me, sitting on the couch. “From now on I’m calling you Darling,” I said matter of factly, sitting on the couch next to her, earning a glare.
“I beg to differ,” She said sarcastically, patting the space next to her. I grinned at her before realizing she was calling her cat on the couch.
“Yeah-no buddy boy, I was calling up my sweet Moses,” Rydia said snuggling her cat to her chest.
I glared at the cat, but it just looked up at me with its big blue eyes and couldn’t help myself from petting it too.
“You like Moses?” She asked looking up at me with her sea-green eyes.
“Yup, I think I like Mossy,” I said, absorbed with the softness of its coat. I haven’t pet an animal since-
“It’s Moses Sin. Not Mossy.”
“Sorry, let me make it up to you by cooking you a once in a life time dinner,” I said excitedly, not waiting for her response.
I started cutting up cheese into slices, and dicing up some turkey, the lunch meat kind, and turned the stove onto medium. I buttered up two slices of bread and placed one on, along with the cheese and meat, and put the other on top. Once I was done, I brought it to her, waiting for her to try it.
“Where’s yours?” She asked me looking up at me with a frown.
“I’m not hungry, I ate before I came here,” I told her with a sly smile.
“Well then, here you go,” Rydia said, placing half of the sandwich in my palm. “We eat it at the same time, ready?” I hesitated, and then nodded. She bit into it slowly, and then chewed it up with a look of shock on her face. I did what she did, even the look, which she replied to by laughing and lightly pushing my shoulder.
“Sin, where’d you learn to make this amazing sandwich?” She asked looking at me expectantly.
“It’s just a grilled-cheese sandwich.”
“A really good one!” After we finished the sandwich we did the dishes and then got ready to leave.
“How are we going to get there by ten?” Rydia asked, looking stressed.
“We’ll take my car,” I replied, smiling down at her.
She hit me then said, “You had a car but didn’t bother to offer me a ride to school?”
“Well Darling, it’s only been one day and I needed the exercise.
“Whatever.” Rydia said begrudgingly, crossing her arms and walking with me to my car. I opened the passenger door for her and she said, “This isn’t your car! How?”
“I know people, now get in Darling; we don’t want to be late.”
When we pulled up to the sorority house, the party was already in full swing. Nitti walked out to us and stood there with her mouth hanging open.
“How’d you score the ride?” She asked me.
“He knows people,” Rydia replied sarcastically.
Nitti shook her head and then waved us into the party. I could smell the booze in the air, not okay with Rydia around this situation. But when I turned to look at her, she was gone, already half way to the bar in the corner of the room.
I tried to squeeze through to her, angry with myself for coming. Something bad was going to happen, I could feel it.
“Hey sexy,” a woman said from behind me, tracing her hand along my spine. “Want to dance?” Well it had been a long time since I relaxed myself, and it’s not like Rydia was gone forever, so I nodded to her.
