"Name?"

"Kim Seokjin."

He wasn't nervous. At least, he wasn't nervous until the grumpy receptionist eyed him like a bug. Now he was nervous. He was in his first year of studying SL interpretation, and so far, he was only on level 3. Yet the college had decided that it was the right time to send him out on work experience. So here he was, about to enter the deaf club for the first time. Just observing for the first few weeks. Once he reached level 4 in a few months he would be able to talk to the people more.

As he stepped in, the first thing he noticed was how relaxed the entire place was. There was no awkwardness, and everyone seemed to be lost in their own conversations. He took a seat near the back where there was less people, and he watched. It really was amazing, to see everyone signing. He knew enough to have a short conversation, but everyone here was absorbed in deep conversations, and Seokjin felt so many emotions watching them. It made him more determined to be an interpreter. But he also noticed how the deaf people talked with their carers, and he became more interested in that. He decided that he would ask his tutors for more information.

So, he did, the next day. They informed him that a lot of deaf people have carers. To be a carer is one of the biggest jobs in the world, they told him, and Seokjin became more curious. Next year he had to choose a joint subject, and he hadn't chosen one yet. It was only early, but he decided to look into it more, as a possibility.

The next time he was at deaf club, he decided to focus more on observing the relationship between the deaf people and their carers. His eyes were glued to a young girl, no older than 20, and her carer, when suddenly someone stood in front of him. He looked up to see a short boy, still in his school uniform, with messy brown hair and a smile that was mostly gums. -Hello, what's your name?- The boy signed, and Seokjin panicked a little. They'd asked him not to talk to the members of the club, but they didn't tell him what to do if the members came to him. Still, it would be rude to ignore him, so Seokjin smiled, -My name is SEOKJIN. What's yours?- -YOONGI.- The boy sat across from him, and Seokjin could hear a low chuckling sound nearby. "I can sense your fear from all the way over here." Seokjin looked to the table nearby to find an old (could he call him old? Was that okay?) man sitting, a cup of tea in his hands. "He won't bite."

The boy in front of him waved his hand to get his attention and carried on signing, and Seokjin blushed. "Ah.. I'm not fluent, yet. I'm sorry," he frowned, and the old man chuckled again, standing up and walking over to sit with them. He held a walking stick and Seokjin seriously wondered how old he was. "He's asking if you're lonely. He will introduce you to his friends if you'd like," the man translated, and Seokjin smiled. The boy seemed to take this as a yes, and he pulled on Seokjin's blazer sleeve, dragging him away. He could hear the man behind them chuckling to himself.
