GRANDMAS AND GRANDPAS
Bill pulled the stupid hat off his head, stuffing it into his messenger bag as he rushed to the escalators, running down them and apologizing to anyone he bumped into and practically running to the cafe where Tom would be waiting. A smile slid up his face at the thought of seeing Tom, his maybe twin brother. He skidded to a stop in front of the cafe and walked quickly into the rich, coffee-smelling store. His smile faded as he promptly realized that Tom wasn't there. Where is he? Bill thought, as he looked around frantically for Tom. Did he bail on me? Does he even want to see me, or was he just pretending? Maybe- his thoughts were abruptly interrupted by someone tapping on his shoulder. He whirled around quickly, relief seeping through him as he smiled at the familiar face.
"Hey, sorry I'm late." Tom apologized.
"No, it's okay, I was early." Bill smiled.
"Let's sit down."
They picked a table at the back of the cafe and sat down. They immediately started talking about their lives and getting to know each other.
"So, how is Mom's mom like?" Tom questioned when there was a pause.
"Oh, Grammy's great!" Bill enthused, his face lighting up at the mention of his Grandma. "She's really nice and kind and her cooking is the best, and-" he stopped abruptly when he saw the look on Tom's face.
"Um, how is Gordon's mom like?" Bill asked softly.
"Um, she's... strict, to say the least." Tom struggled.
"Hmm. What do you mean?" Bill asked.
"Umm... I don't really know how to explain. You'll have to meet her to see what I mean." Tom replied, uncomfortable.
"Okay." Bill answered.
They sat in silence for a little while.
"Hey, when can I meet your- our Grammy?" Tom teased.
"Dude, we don't even know if we're related, let alone twins." Bill said, his face blank from any emotion.
"True, true." Tom agreed. "I'll ask Grandma about this later."
"Me too." Bill said, as he lapsed into silence.
He glanced at his watch.
"Hey, I've gotta get back to work. See ya." Bill got up and left the cafe, turning around to give Tom a little wave.
Tom waved back, then got up and left too, setting a mental note to ask Grandma about Bill.
