UNKNOWN DESTINATIONS AND EMPTY YOGURT CUPS
Bill and Tom were sitting on a bench at DRDD park, eating frozen yogurt they had bought at a mall near Gee Avenue, despite the fact that Grammy was less than happy about Bill seeing Tom. Bill licked delicately at his strawberry-and-banana-yogurt covered spoon, while Tom scraped at his almost-empty yogurt cup, which was filled with chocolate yogurt before. Tom had paid for their fro-yos, (and had the shock of his life when he found out that Bill despised chocolate) and they had sauntered to the park while eating it, Bill occasionally licking his spoon and Tom almost devouring the cup whole. They sat in silence, the only sound cutting through the air being the shouts and laughter of the children playing in the playground nearby and the whistling of the wind through the canopy of trees over their heads. Tom tossed his empty yogurt cup into the trash can beside the bench they were sitting on, the cup falling perfectly on top of the pile of trash inside it. Bill glanced up from scrutinizing his yogurt, as though just coming to his senses. After realizing that Tom was done with his fro-yo and he had barely started, he started eating his yogurt in earnest, until he finished it almost as fast as Tom had. He attempted to nonchalantly toss his cup into the trash can, but missed by a mile. Tom snorted, then tried to hide his laughter. Bill stood up quickly, blood starting to rush to his cheeks in a blush.
"Shut up." Bill said menacingly, before walking to the thrown fro-yo cup, daintily bending over and picking it up from between thumb and forefinger, and almost floating to the trash can, where he separated his two fingers and let the cup fall gently into the overstuffed trash can. He walked back to the bench and sat back down gently, pretending that nothing had happened. A second of silence passed, and Tom burst out laughing, covering his mouth with his hands in an attempt to shield his laughter from Bill. Bill glared at Tom, but his laughter caused Bill to laugh too. Tom couldn't seem to stop, his face becoming red as he clutched his sides and howled with laughter. When their laughter died down a few minutes later, Tom leaned back on the bench, a smile still plastered on his face. Bill chuckled once more before settling back down in his seat. The two of them breathed heavily, their breaths coming in unison. They glanced at each other, then quickly glanced away awkwardly. If I was sitting with a girl, Tom thought, I would definitely kiss her now. He felt a blush rise up his cheeks at the thought, and pushed it away. He got up abruptly, and announced, "Let's go."
"Go where?" Bill asked, as he scrambled out of his seat and Tom started walking.
"I don't know."
"You don't know? How can you not-"
"Hey, calm down. Let's just see where my legs take us."
"Okay, okay." Bill harrumphed, before adjusting his pace so he and Tom were walking side-by-side.
Anyone who was watching them would notice the effortless way they interacted with each other, and when one of them moved slightly to the right, the other would follow suit, subconsciously. They walked off together, occasionally nudging or pushing each other playfully. When one of them ran ahead, the other one chased him until they disappeared into the light of the setting sun.
