"Like the empires of the world unite. We are alive. You're my wildfire every single night, we are alive."
Tobias:The white button up underneath me feels like it's going to burst with the amount of sweat build up underneath it. My dark blue apron covered in grease and oil, sauces of every colour splattered along. The black slacks on me feel like they're gonna tear into shreds with the amount of stretching the fabric has been through every time I fall.
My break is in twenty minutes, if I can manage to get past just this one order then my shift is over and I can head home—which isn't much better, but at least I'll get to change my clothes and shower. Maybe even head to school for basketball tonight, I checked and made sure there was no practices after school so it's safe for me to go to the gym.
Sighing, I allow my eyes to scan their way around the restaurant. Because today is Thursday, it's not supposed to be the busiest day of the week here, yet because there's an office dinner here for some staff of our local brewery, it's pretty chaotic. In one corner of the room is an empty table, it's greasy plates laying around the counter.
It's not my table to clean though, it's Zeke's. "Zeke," I proclaim while pushing his shoulder, trying to get his face off the bar counter. "your table dude, clean it." The sound of the door ringing indicates another family entering the restaraunt, and when I hear it I don't bother looking up because I don't care who it is. Mila is looking after the front desk today, so she can handle that.
"Why? What's happening?" Zeke asks with sleep evident in his voice. I can't help but let a laugh out as he almost knocks into the liquor cabinet behind him.
I open my mouth to tell him that his shift, alike mine, finishes in roughly half an hour. But then I hear the chirpy voice of Mila from across the restaurant. "Tobias, table six is all yours."
My head jerks up, and I feel my eyes widening. She's here. There stands the girl who I bumped into at school with her family, biting her lip nervously as Mila leads them to table six, right beside the washroom. It's almost eight o'clock, so when I see her, I hope that she doesn't recognize me due to how she sits beside the window—it's dark outside, so maybe she won't see me, right? But there's a hell of a lot of light fixtures in Manadlo so I wouldn't be surprised if she does recognize me.
Or maybe she forgot about the fact that I hadn't come on Monday, it has been almost two weeks since I last saw her. Oh who am I kidding? The girl freaked about a little camera and was basically yelling at me, of course she hasn't forgotten.
"Tobias, get to your table!" Mila scolds with pursed lips, snapping me out of my thoughts. I know I'm about to probably get my bones broken by a girl, so I inhale sharply, grab a notepad and exhale on my way to table six.
As I approach her table, I can't help but think about how beautiful she is. Her sun kissed golden hair is flowing down her either side of her face, a navy blue beret on top of her head. Something is around her eyes that make then twinkle, shine. And here I am, thinking about a girl who's name I forgot ten minutes after I met her.
"Hi, I'm Tobias and I'll be your waiter tonight. Is there anything I can get you guys to drink before you order?" I ask once I approach the table, not daring the scan the horror on her face. Instead I look at the man beside her and the woman across from her, most likely her parents. A boy who looks like her brother sits in the corner of the booth, a frown on his face as he plays with a Nintendo DS.
"Thank you, I'll have a root beer. Natalie what about you?" Her father, I assume, asks while looking down at the gold coloured menu's, shifting his eyes off it only when he looks at his wife.
