The rest of my work day was a struggle. I mean how could I possibly think when 'blue eyes'- or err I mean, West was standing just two feet away from me? He stayed on my mind the whole time.
But this was not like me, honestly Hayden was the one who thought about guys non stop but here I was trying to imagine just how god-like his abs must be. Why did this complete stranger have this effect on me?
He finished packing an old lady's groceries and she asked if he'd help bring them to her car. As he left with her bags, I caught myself checking out his butt. HIS BUTT! What was happening to me?
I tried to catch a breath and relax a little while he was gone. Since things had slowed down and there wasn't another customer in site I decided to go ahead and take my break. I went to the back where all the employees hung out and basically collapsed on the tired old couch. Now that I had some distance from West, I felt like a weight had been lifted off my chest.
I really needed to kick him out of my mind, I hadn't even had one conversation with this guy.
And as if fate was just totally against me today, I heard the staff room door creak open, with none other than West himself walking through it.
I watched him walk to the small fridge in the room, crack it open and pull out a sweet tea. He grabbed one of the folding chairs that leaned against the wall, opened it up and straddled it backwards.
"So, Cass is it?"
"No, its Cassidy"
"Yeah, well, same difference. So I do think I remember seeing you 8th period, you go to school with me right?"
"No I just sit in a random high school class for no reason" I said jokingly.
"Yeah, well, I've seen people do weirder," he said through a laugh,"Although you don't strike me as a girl who does weird stuff"
"Oh yeah? What kind of girl do I strike you as?"
He didn't answer my question just let out a light snicker and leveled those brilliant blue eyes at me. And for what seemed like eternity we just stared at each other, like we we're having some sort of unspoken staring contest. But of course, I just had to break contact first.
He gave me a smile that could've melted ice caps in Antarctica, so my little heart didn't stand a chance.
Our little moment didn't last long though, because creepy Mitchell just had to come and ruin it.
"What do you two think your doing?" He said standing with his hands on his hips in the doorway.
"What does it look like mood-killer? I was obviously about to score with pretty lips over here" West said nonchalantly.
'Score?' 'Pretty lips?' Well that hurt. Here I was thinking we were having a moment and all he was doing was try to woo me. Ugh the jerk. So I stood up walked passed Mitchell and went back to my station.
A few minutes later West joined me.
"So as I was about to say before freak-face interrupted -" I held up a hand to silence him.
"Save it, I don't care."
"Whoa! I thought we was starting something back there" He said giving me a wink and a half smile. Moments before that would've sent shivers down my spine but now I knew it was just part of his game. And I refused to be another player.
"Yeah, well go find another girl to 'start something with' because just like you said 'pretty lips' here isn't that type of girl"
After that I was fully concentrated on my work. Well as concentrated as one could be as a minimum wage cashier. West didn't talk to me and I didn't even bother looking at him.
At eight I clocked out, and went to the back where employees parked their cars. I stopped dead in my tracks when I noticed a familiar truck parked next to mine. Leaning against the tailgate was none other than my dad.
Great, just great. Until then I'd forgotten all about this morning. But with him standing there, arms crossed and scowl in place, the memory came rushing back. Whatever he came here for, it definitely wasn't to apologize.
