Only Dreaming

She stood on the edge
Swaying with the wind
Her voice a gentle sigh

She took one step forward
She took one step back
Hovering near the cliff

Her hesitating steps
So gentle at first
Soon grew confident

She came here she knew
For a single purpose
She came to dance

Her body twirled
Her arms and legs
In graceful harmony

She spun and she flew
Her hair wild
The world disappeared

As she danced
It steadily got harder
The steps complicated

She grew dizzy
Her feet faltered
Her body slowed

She looked down
At the feet that betrayed her
The energy had left her.

Maybe she wasn't free
Maybe she couldn't fly
Her dreams were just dreams

Legs dangling over the edge
As wishful as the wind
The girl let out a sigh
