Oliver pulled into the parking lot in his range rover. Now, we would never be able to afford one of those. It was a gift from Reed. Just the name leaves a bitter taste in my mouth.

"Ready?" Oliver perks up and unbuckles his seat belt.

"For Hell?" I add, unbuckling myself as well.

Oliver chuckles and rolls his eyes. "Anna, you've literally got a 4.8 GPA."

"That doesn't make me like school." I sigh and grab my backpack before hopping out of his car.

"Well, I suck at school and still love it."

"That's because you've got friends." I retort, walking onto the sidewalk.

"You can come hang with the guys if you want?" Oliver shrugs and ruffles his brown hair before his green eyes meet mine.

"No thanks. I'd rather not hear you talk about who's the best lay." I huff.

"Suit yourself." He smirks as we enter the crowded hallways of what we call high school. Some guys wave over to Oliver, calling his name as I drift away in the other direction.

I head to my locker and take out my AP Chemistry book and my Honors Pre-Calc book. I exchange them with my APUSH book.

"Annalise!" Someone squeals behind me, causing me to jump and shut my locker.

"Oh my god, Lauren." I roll my eyes and face my best friend, a wide grin displayed across her face.

"Ethan asked me out." She wraps her arms around me and squeals some more.

I raise my eyebrows and pry her arms off me. "Ethan as in the one that's my stepbrother's friend?"

"Yes!" Lauren smirks.

"Well, I'm happy for you." I reply.

"I didn't say yes."

"Why are you so excited, then?" I shake my head.

"I don't know." She shrugs and takes out her iPhone. "Just wanted to go up a bit more on the list."

There's this stupid list on Twitter for our school. It's practically a hot or not list. At the top is the jocks and populars and from there it's all the people associated with them. I'm merely in the top 30, just because of Oliver. Rarely anyone knows about me.

"Who cares about that stupid list, Lauren?" I sigh and start walking to AP Chem.

"Who cares? The whole school cares!" She pleads, hurrying after me.

"I don't." I shrug.

"I know you don't. You're the exception here."

"Mhm." I shake my head and turn down a separate hallway.

"Coach texted." Lauren speaks, engulfed in her phone.

"About what?" I frown, knowing it most likely wasn't good. Coach only texts to cancel or make us stay later.

"We're practicing with the guys today."

I stop in my tracks, causing Lauren to hit a freshman running by. "Why?"

"How am I supposed to know?" She sighs and moves her dis-shelved black hair out of her face.

"That's stupid." I mutter, thinking about all of those stupid guys that'll probably make fun of us. They always do.

"Yeah, well we have no say. I'll see you at lunch." The first bell rings and Lauren scurries off. I bite my lip and walk into Chem, practice the only thing on my mind.
