DIANA

I spotted Lexi in her usual spot at the far end of the cafeteria-the end where pretty much no one else sat. Quickly, I went over to our table and plopped down in my normal seat. She didn't seem to notice me however; she was too immersed in her book. I leaned closer to try to see which one it was this time.

Vampire Academy

I wasn't at all surprised, but I still couldn't hold in the scoff of disgust that came out of my mouth. That seemed to get her attention, because she suddenly looked up from her book at me with an irritated expression. Sighing, she closed the book as I asked,

"Which number is this now? Eighty-two?"

"Ninety-two," she quickly corrected, and I couldn't help it when that combined with the completely serious look she gave me had me cracking up.

"What? Just so you know, this one's actually really good, and Dimitri is, like, super hot."

I couldn't help but roll my eyes.

"You say that for all of the vamp books you read. Also, just so you know, I have no idea who this 'Dimitri' is," I replied, amused.

Her eyes seemed to get a faraway look as she said dreamily, "He's just about the hottest fictional vampire ever! Actually, no-Edward would be the hottest. Or maybe Eric?"

I shook my head as she continued on with her "who's the hottest fictional vampire" rant. In all honesty, I didn't know half the characters she was talking about...Well except for Edward; you'd have to be living under a rock not to know who Edward was.

If you couldn't already tell, Lexi was just about the biggest vampire-lover that I knew. And she was also my best friend. I know what you're probably thinking: how did the vampire-hater and the vampire-lover become best friends? Ironic, huh? Well, it started off on the first day of high school. That day, everyone gave me shit about how much of a bitch I was for hating vampires and so on and so forth. So when Lexi came up to me with a Twilight book under her arm, I figured she'd be just like the rest of them. However, she'd ended up surprising me when she simply told me to ignore them and asked if I wanted to hang with her.

Since then, Lexi has been the only person who's actually nice to me.

And because of that, she's been shunned by everyone at school as well.

Every time I thought about it, I couldn't help the immense guilt that flooded me. I mean she's pretty, smart, and sweet-and is probably one of the coolest girls I've ever met (though she could be such a valley girl at times). She'd never tell me so, but I'm pretty sure that before she'd met me she probably used to be really popular. Now, however, no one ever even glanced her way, and I knew it was all because of me.

Still, she'd always tell me that she's glad she met be, because if any of these people in school were actually worth being friends with, they wouldn't treat her-or me-like that for something so stupid and trivial. I couldn't help but agree to that, and though I still felt guilty, I also felt glad that she'd met me too. She helped make this hell-hole a lot more bearable.

"-but, honestly, though they are hot, they've got nothing on the real vampires. Especially Aiden Vaughan."

As if hearing his name wasn't bad enough, Lexi added a dreamy sigh to the end of her sentence, which made it so much more lame, cheesy, and cliche.

I made a gagging noise that earned me another glare from her.

"I don't see what's the big deal with Aiden Vaughan," I said, voice rising steadily, "he's just an arrogant prick who thinks he can do anything and any girl he wants because he's a vampire and he's Aiden Vaughan."
