[RILEY'S POV]
I woke up the next day for school. The party went well yesterday, I wasn't in my room the whole time though.
Once I got out of bed, I immediately brushed my teeth and continued my routine. I went to the kitchen, seeing the time on the stove. I had ten minutes.
So, I packed my backpack and got a muffin. I sat at the kitchen table, crumbs falling everywhere. I quickly cleaned up my mess and headed inside my room for about five minutes, which was the amount of time I had.
I got out my iPod and went on Instagram. I checked the time. 6:54 AM.
I sighed, pressing the camera icon at the bottom. I smiled at the camera, hoping it didn't look fake. Once I heard the click , I stopped posing.
My fingers pressed letters and finally had the caption:
"First day of 7th grade! Yay!?"
The picture was posted, so I plugged it in so it could charge while I was at school. First day of 7th grade...
I said goodbye to my mom and headed out the door. Just the thought of the number 7 made me shiver. On the outside, I was casual, calm, and innocent Riley. But on the inside, I was like the Titantic about to sink, but this time, a giant sea monster was shaking it so it could fall apart easier.
The thought quickly snapped out of my brain as I turned the corner. My school was only around the corner, 5 minutes by car, and 10 minutes by foot, depending how fast you walk.
I entered the school building and found a bunch of kids huddled up in small groups. I didn't find any of my friends, though.
I went to the office to see if they had my locker number and list of periods. When I got there, the line to the front desk was as long as an adult python.
Getting in line, I found out a boy named Matthew was in front of me. I had a crush on him in 5-6 grade. I really wasn't sure if it was a good idea to say I kinda started liking him again every time I saw him.
Matthew turned around, and when he saw me, he looked like he was about to fall over.
"Hey!" He exclaimed, clearing his throat.
"Um, hi!" I said back.
"You missed yesterday's game! Liz was waiting for you." Matthew moved forward, since the line had moved.
"Sorry. I was putting up decorations for my party and forgot all about it," I apologized.
He nodded in a forgiving way. Once again, he stepped forward to the front desk.
"We can practice today," He smiled like he knew it was a good idea.
"Who won?" I asked, trying not to make it seem like I ignored his comment of practicing basketball today.
"Um, US!" Matthew's eyes lit up, like he was reliving the moment. His eyes shot right through me, they were so..PERFECT.
Matthew pointed at himself once more, still giving me the hint that we won.
"Well congratulations!" I smiled, seeing that Matthew was next.
The lady at the desk looked at Matthew and gave him two papers. He smiled full teeth, his braces making me melt, and said, "Thank you."
He walked away, leaving the office without looking back, not even once. Mrs. Maxwell, the lady at the front desk, handed me two papers as well. I scanned through them, not taking too long. I mumbled "thank you" and slowly walked out the door, hoping today would be okay.
