Great. Just great. I have to start a new school, on the other side of the country no less, IN MY SENIOR YEAR. How lovely.
I walk into my new first period and go straight up to the teacher.
"Hello! Im the new kid, Leo Drease." I say smiling.
The teacher looks at me with tired eyes and sighs. "Im Mr.Tanly. Im guessing you need to catch up?" He asks robotically.
Wow, this guy clearly hates his job.
"U-uh, yes sir."
"Well lets see," he continues looking around the classroom, "ah! There she is. Ok you see that girl over there? The loner? Yeah her name's Jase. Go ask her to take you to the library or something and help you out."
"Alright. Thanks...i guess." I mutter the last part.
Whelp, there's no time like the present.
I head over to the girl and start my usual awkward greeting and ask her for help.
She doesn't seem very enthusiastic about this learning stuff. Did i get the right girl?
My question was answered when i accidentally said her name wrong while walking to the library. She gave me a cold, and actually kind of frightening, look and corrected me.
No wonder Mr.Whats-his-face said she was a loner. She's terrifying.
Hours pass and i end up stuck with her for each class period in the library.
Gosh is this girl THAT FREAKING SMART?! I think she might be getting annoyed with me. Thats not unusual. I do talk alot.
The day finally ends and before Jase and i part, i put her number in my phone and vice versa. You know, just in case i need more help.
She's really quiet but i think i can break the ice sooner or later. If im going to be spending time with her i might as well try to be friends with her. I've got it! That will be my mission for this year. I WILL MAKE JASE WHATEVER-HER-LAST-NAME-IS BE MY FRIEND NO MATTER HOW HARD IT GETS OR HOW ANNOYING I BECOME. Great plan if you ask me.
I smirk at my thoughts, only to recieve weird looks from passers-by. Which isn't unusual either. I can be pretty weird.
-----------------*-------------------*--------------------
WHY IS THIS SO HARD?! I've tried so much to be Jase's friend over the past week and I've gotten nothing. NOTHING. No emotion WHATSOEVER. Is she just that closed off?

I walk into lunch and see her sitting by herself. Like every other day. I've avoided her during lunches to try to think up a plan but nothing works. Today though, i decided to try and sit with her.
"Why?" She asks coldy as i sit across from her at the otherwise empty table.
"What do you mean?"
"Why do you keep trying to talk to me?"
Wow she got right to it. Ok....
"W-well," i have to think about my answer. I definitely dont want to make her mad. "I just wanted to be your friend."
She looks at me. Her face is emotionless.
"Thats a lie." She deadpans.
I slightly choke on my food, trying to think of a reply. I decide to stick with the truth.
"Fine. Everyone I've encountered says you are a loner and don't talk to anyone. So I decided to make you my friend."
Now i recieve the weirdest look. Does she think im crazy?
"Stop." She says, " I don't need any friends."
"Oh come on. Everyone needs friends."
"Not me."
"And why's that?"
She looks away, maybe contimplating her answer or something. I look at her, studying her face and trying to figure out what she's thinking.
Wait, whats that?
I notice a few darker spots, covered up by make up. Don't ask me how i know its covered. Those playdates with my sisters shall NEVER BE SPOKEN OF. Those are bruises. Why does she have bruises? Ok, now i have to be her friend. Im not an expert but ive been known for being able to tell when someone needs help.
"Look, just stop ok?" Jase pulls me out of my thoughts with her comment.
"No." I say.
And that's how our wonderfull, mostly one-sided friendship began. With an argument.
