Chapter 02

I am here at Tom’s Diner dressed in a pink ruffled bridesmaid dress that is obviously purchased

from a thrift store.  Yes, unfortunately Mom and Alfred got married and this is where we had the

reception. Nana did not attend because she was really mad and disgusted by this union. I, on the

other hand, had no choice. I remember two days before her wedding, I tried to sneak out and go to

Nana’s. But my Mom caught me and we had a very loooooooooong guilt trip discussion, not to

mention a slap in the face.  I just tried to enjoy the bland taste of the casserole, pizza, burgers, fries,

Buffalo wings and an awful looking wedding cake. Clearly, it was a “planned” wedding.  Mom said

this is where they had their first date. Yuck! How romantic! I was wondering why all the attendees

seems to be friends of Alfred, and they looked like I don’t know, mafia or something and Alfred is

the leader.  Suddenly I felt fear and worry. I shoved it off my mind and approached my Mom, kissed

her and told her that I wanted to go home.

One freakin’ week, yeah I am with Nana since Mom and her new boy toy are in honeymoon in Las

Vegas. I had a peaceful and wonderful bonding time with Nana. She kept on cooking food for me

since she is saying I am looking thinner and thinner every time she sees me.  We often snuggle on

her sofa and watch daytime soaps and we are both fan of Survivor and most especially game

shows. We are self-confessed Jeopardy addicts. I kept on begging her to take me in and tell Mom

that I can stay with her instead since she is with her new husband now. Nana would love that and I

hope Mom would agree. After a week, Nana accompanied me to talk to Mom. It took an hour and a

half of argument and debate but finally Mom gave in.

“You better be good, Meg. Nana cannot take another stubborn little brat anymore.” she pointed out.

“I will, do not worry Mom”, I answered.

We said our goodbyes after giving me a priest-like sermon on the do’s and the don’ts. Staying with

Nana gave me a relief, though I am a bit worried. There is something fishy about Alfred.
