Chapter six

Aaron Briar

We are all actually really lucky to have what we do have. Even if what we’ve got is not much, it is still more than what someone else has. You don’t have to be rich to be happy. In reality, I think money is what ends up causing most problems in families. Whether your family is dysfunctional or really close, money is an issue at least once in your life. Having too much money makes people go crazy and tricks them into believing that you can do anything and everything you please while getting away with it. If you grow up having moderate to little amount of money and you tend to be humble. It’s easy to believe this true for every situation, but you can’t place a label on a jar without really knowing what’s inside it.

That is actually where the world tends to linger, leaving residue on the various generations, but no one to clean up after it.

I shuffled out of the classroom with the rest of the aspiring business people, and made my way through the crowded halls of the University.

It is filled with faces; each holding a different expression. Mine was glum and tired of hearing different ways to present a business offer. I knew them all too well, and didn’t have to put much effort in any of my classes.

I felt my phone vibrate twice in my pocket, indicating a text message.

Hey, where are you?’ – Jared

I knew I had to put up with Jared for the sake of my parents.

I responded, ‘I’m Leaving University and heading to the coffee shop with a friend.’

Just moments later, I got a reply ‘A friend? Is it a chick?’  - Jared

‘No it is not a baby chicken, I’ll see you later.

I was satisfied with my comment, and then decided to call Fleur to tell her I was on my way over to pick her up. I was taking her to a coffee shop I usually go to after class. I go there so often that they already know my order.

We had become good friends since the night I dropped her and Julie off at their apartment. She was the first to call me a couple of days later, so I invited her and Julie to dinner. Julie had denied coming, but Fleur said she didn’t have to think twice about the offer.

I can’t shrug off the thought that maybe she has felt like the third wheel, but there isn’t anything going on between Fleur and me.

In this century, people think guys and girl can’t just be friends, there has to be something else going on between them.

I dialed her number and pressed the phone up to my ear.

Ring….ring….ring

“Hello?”

“Hey, I’ll be at your apartment to pick you up in about 15 minutes; depending on traffic.”

Sounds good, I’ll be waiting,” she responded in a silvery voice.

“Alright, see you then.”

I hung up and then quickly headed down to my car; parked in a parking garage around the corner.

When I drove up onto the street, the roads where fairly clear and the afternoon traffic hour had not yet set in.

In the time I had predicted, I arrived in front of their apartment complex; in the center of the bustling Minneapolis city.
