The first part isn't exactly a plot hole but it's something to think about.
The TARDIS translates everything someone who has traveled in it into their native language. But it doesn't translate Gallifreyian. This means for us to understand what Time Lords are saying, they decided to learn English or some other alien language because companions can obviously understand them.
