ONE month later, two girls; Brielle Viktorova and Hayley Marshall were sitting in Rousseau's, a deserted bar, at midday. The bartender walks over to them, and begins to talk to them.
Jane-Anne smiles at them. "Third time in here this week."
"I'm obsessed with the gumbo, Jane-Anne." Hayley admits before digging into her food.
"Me too." Brielle slurs with food in her mouth. She smiles brightly as if she was embarrassed but she wasn't.
Jane-Anne giggles. "You know, ladies in the ninth ward say my sister, Sophie, bleeds a piece of her soul into every dish." Jane-Anne glances across the room at her sister, who is working on the other side of the restaurant.
"We've been asking around the Quarter about Hayley's family." Brielle mumbles, swallowing her food.
"And?"
Hayley sighs, disappointed. "Nothing. Zero. I can't find a single person who remembers them."
"Because, Hayley, people like you were run out of here years ago." Jane-Anne whispers. Brielle and Hayley glance at each other, concerned about how Jane-Anne knows about Hayley.
Brielle narrowed her eyes in suspicion. "What do you mean, people like 'Hayley'?"
Jane-Anne walks around the bar to the other side to stand beside Brielle and Hayley. Sophie watches them as Jane-Anne sets a map on the bar. "In the bayou, they call the werewolves "Roux-Ga-Roux"." She circles a point on the map. "You head out there, you'll find what you're looking for. Be careful. It's the last place you'd ever want to go."
Hayley, taking the map, nods at her, smiles, and leaves the bar after grabbing Brielle's hand. Jane-Anne and Sophie exchange glances, and Jane-Anne reveals that she has several strands of both girls' hair in her hand.
The two friends are in Brielle's new 1972 red Ferrari Dino driving down a country road.
"So . . . are you nervous?" Brielle wonders, trying to make conversation.
"Not really." Hayley shrugs before looking at the Viktorova. "But I have a feeling that isn't what you wanted to ask me about." The werewolf smirked seeing Brielle blush from embarrassment.
"Okay, okay!" The brown eyed doppelganger blushed more. "You got me. I want to know what's happening between you and Lys."
For the past month, the black haired doppelganger and brunette werewolf were flirting, sleeping together, and getting pretty close. Brielle noticed this and was actually pretty happy about it. Yes, she still held hope for Caroline and Achlys, seeing as Caroline would call up Brielle once a week to ask about Achlys but she could see her sister was trying to move on from the perky blonde vampire. This was why Brielle then made an effort to be friends with the werewolf even though she didn't like lycanthropes much and also the fact that Hayley was friends with Tyler Lockwood.
Hayley laughed slightly before looking out the passenger window. "Nothing. I – I mean, we have fun together but we haven't said anything about us. So it's like friends with benefits."
"I see. Yet, you are using words like we and us which says otherwise." Brielle grinned as Hayley groaned. "My ship is sailing! Hachlys!"
