Chapter 21

For the entire day, the damn kid hasn't left your side for a minute, and you actually had to have Levi pry him off of you when you wanted to go to the restroom.
You let out a sigh, when you sat down, as you say, "I don't know what to do with this kid."
"Well, it seems that he's really taking a liking to you." Hanji says, as Seiji sits down next to you.
"Yeah, but I have no understanding as to why, though." You say.
"Really, then why don't you ask him?" Daichi says.
You shrugged your shoulders, as you say, "Thought it wasn't important."
"Well then, Seiji, why do you like miss (F/N) so much?" Hanji asks the boy sweetly.
The boy, for once since you met him, seemed genuinely excited, as he said energetically, "Because, she is so awesome!"
You raise an eyebrow, as you say, "Why, I didn't really do anything."
The boy shook his head, as he exclaims, "You took down four bad guys by yourself, and they were like, ten times your own size!"
Your eye twitches, as you grumble under your breath, "I am not that short."
Suddenly, a grumbling sound is heard, causing you to look towards the direction of the sound, which would result in you staring at the six year old child.
He blushed a bit, as he fidgets in his seat.
You let out a sigh, before standing up.
"Where are you going?" Mayumi asks.
"To make lunch, I suppose it's about time to anyway." You say, before disappearing into the kitchen, the boy following right behind you.
You heard chuckles from the mess hall, causing you to sigh.
"So, kid-" You began, as you started to grab things in order to make stew.
"Precisely, what happened that caused four grown men to chase you?" You asked, hoping to get information out of him.
But, the boy didn't reply, causing you to stop chopping at the food, as you looked at the boy, who was currently staring at the floor.
"Well?" You asked, raising an eyebrow in the process.
"I-I stole food." The boy mutters, as his eyes are still glued to the floor.
"Why?" You asked.
"I was hungry and my parents are too poor to buy anything." The boy states.
"Is that it?" You asked, placing you hands on your hips.
The boy nods.
"Well, that isn't so bad." You say, as you go back to chopping the ingredients.
"What do you mean its not so bad!? I stole food!" The boy exclaims.
You sigh, as you say, "You had a reason to, kid. Besides, there are worst monsters out there, other than the ones that steal." You mutter, as you continued to chop food.
"What do you mean by that?" The kid asks innocently.
You looked at the kid from the corner of your eye, before looking back at the chopped food, while saying, "Kid, there are many types of monsters in this world. Monsters who can cause trouble without showing themselves, monsters who abduct children, monsters who devour dreams, monsters who suck blood, and then.....monsters who tell nothing but lies. Lying monsters are a real nuisance, they are much more cunning then others. They pose as humans even though they have no understanding of the human heart. They eat even though they have never experienced hunger. They study even though they have no interest in academics. They seek friendship even though they do not know how to love. If I were to encounter such a monster, I would most likely be eaten. Because in truth, I am that monster."
"But, your not a monster, lady. You saved me! Your a hero" The boy exclaims.
You let out a dry chuckle, as you say, "Thanks kid, but I already know what I am."
The boy looks confused for a moment, before asking, "What are you then?"
You smirk, as you say, "I am (F/N) (L/N), captain of Team Alpha."
The boy's eyes seemed to have lit up as you say this, causing you to chuckle in amusement, as you add the ingredients into a large pot filled with broth.
That was when you sensed a familiar presence.
"Anyway kid, go back to the mess hall, as I finish up cooking. It'll be troublesome if you kept getting in the way while I'm cooking." You say, as you shoo the kid out, who reluctantly went back toward the mess hall.
"Mine, you can come out now." You called out, and not even a second later, she appears in front of you.
"So, what did you gather?" You asked, as you stirred the stew.
"Well, the kid, Seiji Domen, is not very well known on the above ground." Mine begins.
"Above ground, does that mean he is from the Underground District, I heard so much about?" You asked.
"Well, when I got past the guards I started to ask around for anyone with the last name Domen, and after a few misses, I finally found the kid's parents. You see, they managed to sneak the kid up, but the parents were caught and are now, one again, in the underground district." Mine explains.
"I see, this is quite troublesome." You mutter, as you place your thumb and index finger on your chin.
"Is there some way for them to get above ground?" You suddenly ask.
"Yeah, I found out that they have to pay a decent amount of money in order to obtain passes that'll allow them to become a citizens of the upper level." Mine says.
"I see, do you mind if I ask you to do something else then?" You ask.
"Already ahead of it." Mine states, before you had the chance to ask.
"Oh, and how are you doing this?" You asked, a bit of amusement in your voice.
"Well, I have two ways, but I'm going with the easier one. These people have no skills in hiding things anyway." Mine says, before disappearing into thin air.
"Make sure to be quick about it!" You call out, a small chuckle echoing into the air, as you turn your attentiom back to the food which is almost done.
You stir the pot of stew, as you sigh out, "This brat is more trouble than I originally thought. But, I guess that isn't too bad."
You mutter the last part silently to yourself, as you extinguished the fire that was heating the pot and began to pull out bowls and utensils. Before placing them in front of everyone who was in the mess hall, the kid practically bouncing with eagerness to eat the stew you prepared.
